!agree
The UN is a pile of shit
It's just a bunch of powerful nations dictating to the rest
And usually they dictate bullshit
What even Russia and China?
Because those where impossible without the UN
Isn't Saudi Arabia on the women's rights council or whatever
But the UN is a good idea right
It's totally not just a way for nations to push their own agenda
Regardless of who it hurts
No I mean I am a libertarian but I'm not an ancap
If you look at history nations grouped together all the time to form a united front, look at the many wars of the coalition's
Labour is pretty much hated and it has a split vote
Yeah @Nathan James 123 ?
Other than the moral implications it doesn't really work, if you impose say democracy onto a people they will see it as a foreign imposition and likely be more against it before
Yeah that's why I said other than moral ones
But isn't a government supposed to be for its people
What do say the people of the UK gain from exporting democracy? A bunch of dead soldiers and a load of wasted money?
Investment is completely fine
Actually it's a moral good
Yeah peaceful cooperation is good
Well debt diplomacy can only go so far if you have a decent country that has say a stable democracy
Since if they try to influence your country too much you can refuse to pay debts or confiscate stuff, but if it's purely peaceful and non coercive I don't see the problem
That's what happens when the government controlls so much, a smaller government is more accountable
Lol
China is a special case though since it's the government doing it
I'm all for private investment and such but not the government
Sorry you are right this isn't a subject I know much about
I would say that a government investing in another country with public funds isn't an acceptable way of influencing a nation
I'm all for private investment in other countries and the sharing of ideas and such
But I'd object to my government doing it
I do but I believe that a government should serve its people
I can see an argument for such tactics for national security
Yeah I can see that argument
You can't just ignore the geopolitical power game
Yeah I object to it and think it's bad but so is war, there are times where both are necessary for the good of your nations citizens
If you ignore the power game and get weak you get invaded and your people suffer
I disagree
I disagree I think it's important to be in a position to defend yourself but I disagree with power for powers sake
I want my people to be free
I don't think it's necessary at the moment at least for the UK
I agree there and we should stand for our people's interest but when you say aggressively it sounds like you mean something like using the millitary and I don't think that is necessary
I completely disagree haha
So what invade France?
I'm not sure what you mean by use the military then
Gunboat diplomacy?
So empire? Start an empire to be more powerful and be stronger?
I disagree I don't think we need to start an empire to remain free
I don't see why if anything that will be an economic burden
If china gets worse you will just get cold war 2 and then we back the US
I don't think we are in coldwar 2, I think it might be on its way but not yet
Sure china is inflicting but that goes on between nations all the time, it's not like they are about to steamroll Europe
And what happens when we go yeah this is ours now china?
If they start messing with us
Then let's take their shit
So it's bad enough that we should start an empire but not that we can't confiscate their assets in the UK?
So it's not bad enough that lowering the credit rating is worth it?
Benefit who? The British people who's blood will have to be spilled to maintain this empire and who have to face the large tax burden?
I'd rather be Switzerland but in the north Atlantic
And an empire would be pain free?
Other countries arent gonna be like Hmmm maybe we should stop this?
And then loads of wars that cost more money and blood?
Because government intervention always works look at Venezuela it's a paradise
A country with something like 50 percent income tax yay
I do love not being able to choose how I spend my money
