I do see gender is a bit of an unnecessary concept in itself. The only reason that someone would want to categorize people into two rigid definitions such as male or female is if they want to use that to their advantage. Since gender is a social construct and anyone can exhibit masculine or feminine traits (and people who oppose this are attempting to grasp power over the feminine, usually), there is no reason to me to adopt labels within this structure. I respect transgender labels that exist within this binary structure because they do subvert the structure in a way that disfavors the structure, but I believe that in order to truly emancipate ourselves from gendered oppression, we would need to eliminate things based around this binary structure.
I like to see gender as people's god, per say. God doesn't actually exist, people project their ego, what they see in themselves, onto these labels such as god and gender. A lot of people, if you insult god they feel that you're insulting them personally, because everything they feel about god is just a reflection of their own feelings. When you strip away people's god, they often times have difficulty coping with the sense that they're free, and all the choices they have to make can lead to an infinite amount of outcomes. People cling to binaries and fantasies because this freedom is terrifying to them, but they will feel insulted because the things that people hold on the most emotional basis will always be the things that give them the strongest emotional reactions. The most primitive part of their brain is literally defending against the threat of annihilation of everything that is familiar to them. If we want to escape gendered oppression, we have to kill god.
A society where people have destroyed themselves, destroyed the egoistic projection of themselves onto imaginary structures, is a threat to authority. This movement to kill the self was prominent in the 1960s, when the free love movement attempted to deconstruct a hierarchical based society in favor of discovery of the inner self. They looked inside themselves, and those higher ups were afraid that they would discover the true nature of god, and thus destroy all the concepts that they control people with. The movement never did truly emancipate people from the egoistic self, capitalistic god based society has persisted, but thereโs been an ongoing struggle to kill god for as long as thereโs been a vague uneasiness in the people.
Just listen to noam chomsky, the people thinking for themselves was a threat to the powers that be in the 60s and they enacted every possible backlash that they could via cultural engineering. Itโs parallel to the cultural engineering of say genesis p orridge, however the structuralists do so in the pretext of absolute truth. They are both equally absurd, except the dadaists and existentialists are embracing such facts, the industrial avant garde music movement and dadaism was like a clash between the structuralists masquerading as truth, and the deconstructionists showing people what they really are.
