leaving that point asside
Why did western Europe develop into the "western world " while eastern Europe fall behind following the black plague?
long story
@Apotheosis Still another race being able to set the princibles of another, showing how confinding to your race is ilogical to spread your princibles.
if I had to guess, one big factor is tech advancement
no
yes china had all of it too, but they didn't need to learn to use it, develop it, and exploit it as much as we did
It can be greatly simplified
the big thing was losing the thirty years war
Not really
and not forming unified states
for a long time
because europe was at war all the damn time, there was a constant armsrace in every category
I say geography played a big role in who won
The problem after the black plague was the labour shortage
The reaction to this one issue caused a difference in the future development of Europe
I vaguely recall the labor shortage
how did this affect things
In the east the more organised governments and more powerful lords meant that they simply forced peasants to work harder and longer and gave them less freedoms, creating serfdom
In the west the less organised governments and less powerful lords meant that they couldn't do that, so they had to relax a bit and adapt more to how the peasants were exploiting their new found power
And serfdom is a massive reason why the east just never had a chance against western europe
They held themselves back
I mean... feudalism was still in effect in France and Britain after the plague, wasn't it?
Oh yeah
Look east europe is flat, easy to invade. West eroupe has more mountans, to hide in, and there is the british isles, u need boats to invade.
You don't change an entire system overnight
@zoopokemon kind of, except that big flat bit has a bitch of a winter
well... Britain and France took different paths
Always ends in a russian winter, as they say
Of course they did Apoth
Britain separated early from the Catholic church, avoided the thirty years war, and had several civil wars where they fought off abolutism in their monarchies and Catholic rule
France also tried to discover the republic. Five times.
Waiting on their sixth go at it.
but France went the path of a separated Catholic church (the pope of Avignon), then crushing their Hugenot Protestants, then asserting abolutist monarchy under Louis 14th after the thirty years war
Ye
and that's why we look down on the French
cause they backward ass monkeys
as different as they were
this doesn't compare to the difference between themselves and East Asians and Sub-Saharan Africans
You're right there
Didn't Eastern Europe struggle because they were unable to centralize any power? They were just little bit more unwilling to concede to a large centralized authority I guess?
but I'm still on the 1700s, things likely changed in the 1800s
Germans are known for their orderliness
LOL look a germany talk about not wanting to centralize power
No, Eastern Europe had plenty of centralised power, I mean under that logic the UK would have struggled but we became the greatest nation in existance and that ever will be
I mean... there were like 300 German states only loosely under the authority of the Holy Roman Empire until the Thirty Year's War
and then they were pretty much independent after that
Germany isn't eastern Europe chap
oh my bad lol
They were more like a mix of both
tbh
They had serfdom despite their divided nature, largely because they were I guess what you could call "small scale authoritarians"
okay yes their serfdom got worse and worse
over time
But anyways, I'm going to go and kek but this has been interesting, I wish you luck in fleshing out your ideas!
for sure, thanks for the interesting conversation
that's the 2nd to last link in <#377519392956874752>

at leat she didnt take his tendies
Hehe
Holy fuck.
The left like to riot by destroying building property
Their mask is like "abolish capitalism" but they help capitalism by making the smaller buisnesses pay a whole lot for the glass and the furniture shit
What if the radical left is ran by a bunch of big companies in discuise? What if they were all glass makers?
Thatโs a bit too woke for me
@Deleted User holocaust denial is not protected under freedom of speech
?????
I think holocaust denial is protected in the US isn't it?
yes
should it be else where
Yes
should it be universal
he was calling me 1488 for saying countries that have ban holocaust denial for being anti freedom of speech countries
^
well that part you assumed
nah just because someone wants freedom of speech doesnt mean they are 1488
it's not protected in Canada
holocaust denial
cause its a shit place
that isnt free
I'm struggling to see what useful argument you can make from either the premise that it happenned or not, so it doesn't really impede speech. It does impede people intentionally hurting others
lol
what an argument
ok, if I stop you from saying: "there are very small rocks deep in the earth" will you care?
yes
if youd kill me if i do
that would be misplaced caring
I'm sure you have more important subjects to attend to ๐
so ban non important ones
I understand what you mean
and frankly, I would prefer to be able to say anything I want
I was against that law when it passed - by principle
but it's been what, 30 years? I forgot
30 years of no freedom of speech
and in all that time, I never was placed in the position to claim either way
so in practice it was innauculous
and I'm a pragmatic when it comes to analysing problems
And guess what, my grand father was in Dashau
so
if america were to ban holocaust denial
i would deny it on the premise thats illegal\
and itd be a type of protest
like free the boob
walking around naked
hehe
Well, a lot of countries are envious of the american freedom of speech
It was clearly a stroke of genius
"We trained chickens to react to an average human female face but not to an average male face (or vice versa). In a subsequent test, the animals showed preferences for faces consistent with human sexual preferences (obtained from university students). This suggests that human preferences arise from general properties of nervous systems, rather than from face-specific adaptations."

Hmmm
There's a better version, with the headlines something like "Zambia offers land to farmers fleeing Zimbabwe", followed by "Zambia has record corn export".
imagine that
imagine my shock ?
Really gets the noggin-a-joggin
anyone have that picture of paul joseph watson
imagine my shock
oh
here we are
imagine my cock
I'd think that would be so god damn obvious that getting funding for research would be exceptionally difficult
@DanielKO https://github.com/louisabraham/copypasta-data doesn't currently scrape reddits copypasta, but apparently it will soon(tm)
?
just thought you might want to look at it, I seem to remember you wrote a discord bot that used tensorflow or whatever
Markov model
well anyway it's just another potential data feed I thought you might want to look at

"World Inequality Report 2018", and it's not what you think, and does seem to contain some good data
especially on the economic trends and rise in private properties of former communist regimes
`He claimed the cost of building a Death Star would be $850,000,000,000,000,000.
Feinstein dug a little further.
"That was just the cost for the steel, the raw materials for building a Death Star. I took those numbers and found actually instead of $800 quadrillion, it would be $193 quintillion."`

This was a fun "conversation" to observe.
On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day I'd like to share with you all, and encourage you to share Dr. King's wise advice on the subject of homosexuality. The paragraph starts with "Your problem is not at all an uncommon one."

This is an analysis of why Hillary lost, and how the Democrats can recover, it's about 40 minute read. I've read about half of it, and I have to say "bravo".
Bravo - well done - I am in flabbergasted by the author (Jamie Chung), he manages to get it wrong almost _every_ turn and argument he makes, and he bases his conclusions in factually incorrect statements.
it's not really worth reading, unless you want to bathe in the ignorance of this person
here's one quote, that I enjoyed, from the very start of the article:
"And while most pundits at that point still considered Trump the second coming of Herman Cain, a circus act rather than a serious candidate, [Bill] Clinton feared Trumpโs ability to channel white-working-class rage. โHeโs a master brander and he[โs] sensing sort of the emotional landscape of people heโs selling to,โ [Bill] Clinton told donors gathered in Atlanta in October 2015."
except that he used the name of a famous entertainer for effect, and then felt the need to explain himself
one can only hope that all analysts who look at "what democrats need to do to win next time" are as inept as this person
`Mark Blyth argues pretty persuasively that Clinton will run again in 2020 (timestamped)`
https://youtu.be/TdivPhu-jTQ?t=24m15s
`He notes her as central in the "Cersei Lannister Problem: no one else can rule Westeros because I've killed them all, so it has to be me." `
god dammit he's pretty clever as well that mark fucker
guess I should listen to that
I'm not sure these people understand computers
that is to say, I'm absolutely positive these people don't understand computers
well theres not 1 technical word in that article
so that should scream something
well when I say "these people" I am referring to the politicians who wrote the regulation/law
regardless of what it says
well lawmakers will never know the reality of things
disconnected to everything
there's no way to enforce this regulation without actually breaking all encryption for everyone, forever
and you need to disconnect your internet from the rest of the world, and pass everything through a proxy
literally implementing man-in-the-middle on a government level
that's going to be fun
well that wouldnt work out on a technical side
yes it does
well yeah, china
several other nations
it's just incredibly difficult and lots of work, and crazy as fuck
not to mention incompatible with a free democratic constitution, I'd argue
these people have no fucking idea what they're doing
but even then, to implement that youd compromise other factors
"criminals are using encryption, we need to be able to break _their_ encryption but noone elses"
ye no shit dude
[11:33 PM] folk: there's no way to enforce this regulation without actually breaking all encryption for everyone, forever
like the ability for anyone to decrypt your credit card info with no abiity to track down
which would fuck the economy entirely
yes
and directly affect the stock trading market
all their traffic is encrypted
>Governments knowing nothing
Imagine my shock
rofl
hehehe
well, it's not so long ago that the US FBI chief was trying to sell the same lamb
i didnt think the AUD was doing that great?
I linked that in breaking 6 days ago
lol
๐คฃ
that's pretty reasonable for us
yeah, thats not too sad
you mean unlike your politicians
huh
worst was like 66 cents
well, depending on if you were a buyer/seller importer/exporter
Just wish I'd bought more shit back around 2011/2012
well .au needs both lol
Aus dollar was stronger than the US dollar
lel
Was cheaper to buy shit from the US on Amazon and ship it over
Than it was to buy it in-store here
i had someone a few years ago
paypal'ed me money and id ship him games
1) it was quicker
2) it was cheaper
yup
I did the same when I bought Adobe CS5
fucking cunts wouldn't let me buy it in the US myself (rejected my shipping address and would redirect me to the AU site where they'd charge me about 300% more FOR THE SAME PRODUCT)
So I called an Uncle and asked him to give me his shipping address
then I paid him to send it from there to me
job done ๐
Was, like $US300
or $AU1,800
was fucking ridiculous, whatever it was
I remember that much
yeah, thats stupid
lol
>fucking cunts wouldn't let me buy it in the US myself (rejected my shipping address and would redirect me to the AU site where they'd charge me about 300% more FOR THE SAME PRODUCT)
๐คฃ
You could shop on Amazon.com.au
and get the ridiculous price
or go to Amazon.com
actually I think I had to google a direct link to the page
otherwise it'd redirect you BACK to the .au page for that product
but if you put it in your cart and clicked checkout
and the address was Australia
you couldn't check out
*s l i m y*
ANYHOO
not political, so... *throws random link in*
aaaaaand bed.
lol
Really makes ya think <:think_hitlerdidnothingwrong:378717099952177162>
fucking Indians, lel
(*now* bed)
feckin indos
almost as rascist as the jordanians
lol
i like the control question
its almost as if they didnt want you to be biased
hehehe
Oi @Vertig0ne you britbong, why did you make the indos so damn rascist
and why are the pakis not rascist at all?
we like to fuck around
explain
plant the seed
see what happens
you're .us arent you?
yus
so... the way i see it. US is comprised of people that wanted to leave Britain, AU is comprised of people forced.
