Anyone got stockpiles of MRE willing to barter?
I wish. Those are impossible to find right now with everything going on.
Unless you know someone that works on a base.
rice and tuna
yaaaaas
Sardines
MREs are nice but you can get alternatives much cheaper.
Gardening!
@KGBSeeSpots687 Exactly right. I got mine going a couple of months ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8Hr0s7yvUY
Fair, I just want to get ahold of 3 or 4 for the sake of having em, definitely gotta get the veggies going.
You can find MRE's on Amazon
My family has been stocking a deep freezer that we can switch to generators if the power goes out, however that not very mobile.
You can never go wrong with SPAM or Tuna
Ranch Style beans or any other canned beans works good as well. Also keep peanut butter on hand, it's a great source of protein.
Yโall like bacon? Itโs low carb, at least ๐
Jerky tho,
Fun Fact: Pine needles contain vitamin C. They can also be used to make tea.
Yep
Iโve got venison thatโs been waiting to get eat, a shit ton of canned shit that Iโd rather not eat. Gardening is something all boog bois should know how to do.
I got some cows, chickens, and a huge garden. I have the foods. ๐ท
There you go.
Mom has been wanting to start a garden <:portalhmm:314922724671619072>
I have one as of now.
About 50 yards long.
We have a couple acres weโve cultivated. We have our own machinery, so putting in a huge ass garden is pretty easy peasy. Itโs also easy to string up cows and deer and the like. Thankfully!! ๐
Thatโs nice!
Me and my wife are starting a raised bed garden this year, and we're both avid hunters of small and large game
I live in town, but my wife and I had the idea to put a listing on Craigslist to look for gardening land nearby in exchange for as much produce as the landowner wanted from the garden. Now we have 16, 50-foot rows about 20 minutes away that's ready for planting in a week or two. If you don't have space, consider asking around. We got a lot of responses. Older people often love having a garden to putter around in but they can't always get it started. We got lucky, our new friends are willing to help with weeding and watering, plus they've got chickens and space for goats/pigs.
Glad to see like minded people when it comes to gardening. Its certainly something everyone can try at some scale, and an excellent way to start or grow community interaction! Anyone try aquaponics at all?
@Cowboy the closest I've done with that is trying to grow pot with some kind of ghetto hydroponics rig not straight bare bone aquaponics yet
The self irrigating 2 liter is a easy yet rewarding one to make... doesnt require shit for supplies
Awesome stuff man, thanks for the ideas!
My wife is picking up our baby chicks today we will start our raised beds soon
Nice man! Iโve got a garden growing and Iโm glad to hear youโre going to.
We were buying food and storing it in a tote with some other supplies when we lived in town this whole situation along with finally getting a place in the country accelerated our prepping plans
Thatโs very good man, Iโm glad for you.
The good thing was I wasn't behind the curve on guns and ammo like a bunch of other people where I was actually hooking up my coworkers during the gun panic a couple weeks ago so I was set on the most expensive component of the prep plan
Been stockpiling guns and ammo for a decade wish I would have bought mountain house too
you can achieve aeroponics with simple hardware store misters
and a spraybottle of nutrients
also i feel i must plug the farmbot genesis here, totally open source hardware & software

What is hydroponics
@DankGrog a system for growing plants indoors without dirt or with minimal dirt basically
Ah
Homemade Shepardโs pie tonight gentlemen. Thatโs tonightโs suppah
Jalapeno teriyaki mac n cheese, tonight n jalapeno ranch mac n cheese tomorrow
Interesting things I found on Facebook.
Wait what
No
Just joke
Okay, like I poked my head into this channel and was like โthe fuckโ

If we lose power my cooking will remain the same
That looks incredible Panda
It was really good. I made Mojo Picon sauce I used to eat in the canary islands. Bit of a cheffy type myself. Taught my friend his whole emt course and got him through his exams, in exchange he took me into his restaurant and taught me what he could. I love cooking and finding ways to make shit different with the same ingredients.
Smoked a small (3/4lb) brisket the day before
Bro cooking is one of the best ways to soothe the soul! Love it!
I'm too lazy to cook lol. Not to mention I suck at it
Try experimenting with easy stuff first..makes food soo much more enjoyable.
Any other steak enthusiast in here?
Is that waygu steak?
Domestic but yes.
i will survive the whole apocalypse with just this single box of graham crackers
Hell yeah brotha. That's the best lip smaking steak
Oh I got the beef buddy. Let me shoot some guns and Iโll show you some better steaks

@PandaMedic (ๅๅฅฝ็็็ซ)
Hey man is thier a recipe for the meat you posted?
The first one is some thick ass flank steak, marinaded in orange juice, diced jalapeรฑos, cilantro, honey and one of these bad boys https://www.mccormick.com/grill-mates/flavors/marinades/grill-mates-mojito-lime-marinade
Holy fuck that sounds amazing
Indiana is chilling livestock call your farmers for cheap meat, you'll have to slaughter and process yourself
Anybody else vacuum seal dry goods? What a tedious task, just finished doing 30+ pounds of rice and beans.
Youโll want to plant that a lot thicker
Starting the garden.
Any amendments?
rent a apartment with a roommate, so sadly cant do anything like that.
You got room for 14 red solo cups?
Iโm growing okra, chives and cantaloupe and also a bit of potatoes and beets. I have green onions and garlic aswell. Planted weeks ago, okra and chives have pushed through. Onions and garlic have nice leaf growth. Beets have leaves aswell. I have an eggplant and a blueberry bush that isnโt doing well
Any tips for those last two?
@kalebdenden yes i do
@Thatotherguy you need to have acidic soil for those blueberries
Get rose fertilizer for your soil and collect pine needles to mulch it with. Also used coffee grounds
@SOG JAMESON do you like to eat salads?
Thanks
Come on folks, lets see some pics of how your being more self reliant. Who else is practicing self sufficiency when and where they can?
Nothing has really come up yet, it's still a bit cold. Had snow over the weekend.
A couple rows of potatos, some lettuce. Planting corn and beans next week (after last frost date)
I did the first part with a shovel, and then decided to get a crappy little tiller, which turned out to work really well.
Six new apple trees
Damn. Wish I had land.
Does anyone know of any crops that can grow in 100% indirect sunlight?
I canโt grow shit but weed lol
If I grew weed it would probably be trash quality lol.
Just hoard fishcock and groats
This has been my sole contribution to this channel
@Bogs_Bunny You have no direct light or what?
Plenty of plants will grow with non direct light, just might be a little slower or smaller. But others will do fine
When I lived in an apartment, I had 5 - 5 gallon buckets that grew all kinds of veggies. My balcony only had a couple hours of direct sun at best. But the sun reflected of the building next to mine, and the plants did great.

Tomato and pepper section
Self-reliance is the real way to end the state
@Lucky Texan yeah my apartment gets no direct sunlight year-round.
@Bogs_Bunny still try some plans in pots. You'll be surprised at how much will still grow
@Bogs_Bunny Do you have somewhere you can fit a tote?
Oh nice, how did i miss this room... HI y'all
any one ever grow plants indoors? not talking about MJ but food plants like potatoes, carrots etc? i live in a apparment with no garden or balcony etc and ive been thinking of getting some UV lights for my 3d printer then thought about alternative uses.
That's the basis of hydroponics. The soil you use will be important even more so. I can't speak for growing plants inside but I have several seasons of growing plants landscaping.
Ive started lots of plants inddors, but never kepts more then some herbs or house plants inside.
I know if you have the room for a light set up its possible. Ive seen 10foot tomato plants grown inside plant stores here in the states. No idea how many lights where on it though
And if space is an issue, id stay with higher end plants, and not potatoes and carrots...
@kalebdenden you mean by a window?
I have grown a grapevine indoors, using red and blue LED grow lights. It never produced fruit (because it didn't go dormant) and it won't live for more than a few years, but it grew about 30 feet.
No just a tote
If you have a tote you can put a grow light in it and at least grow lettuce or spinach
I might have one around. Aren't grow lights expensive as hell though?
I got my LED grow lights for like $5 each
One of them broke right away, and I had to buy another (cheap import)
Like one $5 light per plant or how does that work?
Depends on how close the plants are. I'm looking on amazon now and they have both spotlight type bulbs (which is what I used) as well as a large square
Grow spotlight is like $16, and the big square is $36, but I'm sure some internet search magic can find better product/prices.
I seriously overestimated the price. I thought grow lights were $100-$300
Non-import commerical ones might be up there, but $50 looks like you could grow a good bit inside
https://morningchores.com/easiest-vegetables-to-grow/ seems pretty informative too
2000 watt 4ftxft full spectrum grow light is $310, for commericial hydroponic
+1 for lettuce. It has been stupid easy to grow
In my climate it grows like a weed
Specifically romaine lettuce
Apple trees survived the late snows and frosts
My dad mutilated my apple tree last year, it's still alive, but I hope it can finally bear fruit after 13 years
I still can't believe he seriously lopped off every single branch that was flowering
And that's why I took over all the food bearing plants this year
ye
@kalebdenden will any coffee grounds do?
For what
Nice potatoes btw @Thatotherguy
Ye
@kalebdenden the bluberry thing
Oh yeah any coffee grounds
When you water them into the soil it will add acidity
Do they have to be mixed into a liquid?
No
Put it on like mulch
In October I'm gonna make some hot sauce, and I'm actually planning on making a company for it.
It's gonna be called Hand Kind Hot Sauce
I'm working on a recipe right now for a sticky blueberry sauce called "Blue Glue" as a reference to the b ga o
Is this fine
Why did you put rock on top
It looks kind of rough
Ye
First thought is water at night
And donโt overwater
Ok
Iโve been watering in the afternoon when the sun is obstructed by the building
That plant is fucked man.
I'd recommend using some fertilizer
Rate my orange tree
10/10 nice
it is indeed nice
Nice
@kalebdenden what temp would be most optimal for it? Itโs a Japanese variety
Ichiban
I guess I have to call it a green tree because those oranges are green...
Idk I havenโt grown eggplant honestly
Ok
I grew eggplant one year, it went really well, was pretty easy.
Tips? @Rawhide
I didn't grow in pots, and I didn't start from seed. But I do know that plants in pots can get bound up a bit
I mulched a lot tho, just used grass clippings I mowed.
I have used the cloth pots that keep the roots from balling up, but I used those for starting grapevines.
Ah
Those things are magic
This is the only food related channel I can find, I had to share this with someone
> This is the only food related channel I can find, I had to share this with someone
@Fabultishere is that chicken?!
Pork? Honestly have no clue but it's something medium rare that shouldn't be medium rare
Ummm
Rice
I prefer my turkey medium rare
so I'm looking to get a good sear in my...steak
I want to cook it up at home, instead of using a professional facility. Any suggestions?
Pan searing with butter and thyme is good
Just a bit of salt and pepper on the steak
Nice
Very nice indeed
Anyone got any tips on growing tobacco cause once I get back on my feet Iโm buying a good bit of land and living off the grid
Tobacco could be a good source of money I reckon
Then again, that's me talking, and I don't use tobacco so my only use for it would be selling it
I use it because Iโm so heavily addicted Iโve tried to quit but Iโve only stopped the dipping side of it but cigs itโs hard for me
Have you tried those nicotine patches?
I tried them but they didnโt work caught myself still smoking with em on
I wonder I could sell tobacco now :thonk:
I think their could be a market for "clean" homestead farmmed tobacco instead of chem filled tobacco.
Is that legal tho
yeah biggest issue
but so is selling un fda proccesed meat
or over a certain amount.
Legally you can only grow 1/10th an acre of tobacco per person for personal use., for those who want to know what laws they are breaking
depends on state because no fedral law prohibiting it
Loophole time, have people pay you not for tobacco, but to grow it. As long as they pick it, It's theirs
Or once its done claim floods fucked up the stuff and sell it as mulch lol
Or lose all of it in a tragic canoeing accident
It fell outta my plane officer
I don't know how that guy down the road managed to find the crops I lost officer, I swear
Rats ate em all
loop hole for meat is you have a person buy a live animal and then yiu offer a custom butcher setvice for them.
@Thatotherguy Nice ShiroKuma
your pfp
from So what Im a spider, waiting on vol 9 to be subbed.
Yeah
My two pigs. Feeding them a new feed and seeing them get bigger every week.
Very nice
We have friends who had pigs one year. The ham and bacon was amazing
Pigs are great to have. I want to eventually get a goat, and maybe some cattle. Chickens are a must, probably the easiest animals to have and you reap the benefits pretty early with their eggs and such.
If I didn't live in suburbia under the oppression of my HOA overlords, I would definitely get into raising livestock
HOA
When I finish my degree I'm moving straight to somewhere without an HOA
assuming this economic catastrophe ends and you can get a job
dun dun dunnn
I spent 8 years looking for property, and eventually found 50 acres on the side of a mountain with the closest neighbor a quarter mile away. But my wife grew up on a farm and doesn't want to have anything to do with taking care of animals.
Chili Mac is based
Yum
Yes
So I have learned that Four Lokos are disgusting
@Fabultishere yeah gross and make you feel gross
But it also activates those almonds
