> Back off Texan I asked first lol
@GRANITE Ya caught me!
If the tip is green, see a doctor
Plates ๐คค
Heh random thought. When I'm old, it'd be funny to have one of those old glass cabinets that people keep their fine china in, except full of ceramic plates
"We only use these for special occasions"
Lol that would be badass
@[LA] Zoomer Medi/k/ did you go with shellback?
Iโm going to save up and get the Shellback Rampage because it has the clips that I can use for a Microfight.
So basically I know what Iโm gonna do. Get the PC, get the Microfight, and then set both up to my liking.
Once my PC is entirely done, move to belt.
Yea thatโs what I got. The rampage.
I like it
Are there any low profile plate carriers to wear under a hoodie?
They advertise the rampage as a low profile
But I donโt think it is
I took a picture yesterday one second
Oh ok I was about to look it up
Not bad I suppose. You'll be obvious in a shirt, but it might work under a sweatshirt
Yea prob will be obvious in a sweatshirt. They make other ones though.
Shellbacktactical.com my bad
Luckily we bundle up in winter here, easy to conceal then. Summer doesn't seem doable.
Yeaa probs not. Maybe some 3a soft armor
Level IV plates are kinda thick
I like the low profile stuff, and a lot of minimalist things. As someone who needs to rotate and move (medical boy), low profile and easy to maneuver in is amazing.
I'd hate to wear soft armor in the summer where I'm at
Layered kevlar is such a good insulator that they use it for stuff like industrial oven mitts
Damn really?
I did glassblowing for several years and we'd use kevlar sleeves when working with particularly large pieces
Guns take priority over plate carriers I would assume. Right?
If you wanted to wear any armor in the summer, I'd say you'd probably want lighter weight ceramic armor with something like an armorvent slapped on your pc.
Also yeah pc's are near the bottom of the list on priority
Near the bottom? I thought maybe right behind guns, ammo and training would be a good PC.
Carry pistol with a quality concealed kydex holster, ammo and training, medical stuff, a rifle, other general survival things like food and bleach for purifying water, maybe a chest rig for higher level training, then after all of that and probably some other stuff, armor
When determining what equipment you need, you've gotta figure out what the most likely scenarios are. Before all of that, you should really have a fire extinguisher in your house, since in the end it sorta serves the same purpose as any other equipment, keeping you alive and your property protected.
I guess I forgot that not everyone stockpiles food and supplies lol
I have a decent amount, could use more though. I think about 2-3 months worth
maybe longer, it's nutritious but disgusting, so it's only really palatable if I'm really hungry
I have enough rice and beans to survive on for a few months. I will absolutely hate rice after, but I'll live if necessary.
Oh I forgot about my rice lol. Yeah it'd last a good long while
Most of my stock is soylent since it's basically carbs, protein, and vitamins. It tastes like cheerios and protein powder thrown in a blender though
I bought a two year supply of toilet paper back in December cause I had a good deal. Who knew it would become the new gold standard? ๐
I have 15 horse 25 chicken. Fruit and vegetables. Growing And getting two beef cattle that should of already been here. Iโm set on food
Unfortunately I was bitten by a tick that makes me allergic to all mammal meat except for the great apes. So it's pretty much chicken and fish, or cannibalism to get meat lol
Seriously?
Yeah. Before anyone asks, no it's not lyme disease, completely different thing
Great apes?
What concealable low-pro carriers would you guys recommend? Or what have you heard, is good?
Shit I figured you know that one sparrow
weird how many people jump to lyme disease without knowing what it is.
Anyway, it's called an alpha-gal allergy, specifically an allergy to a carbohydrate that's only found in most mammals
I was gooing to tag you in this convo earlier
I knew it wasnโt Lyme because I know a lot of people with that
And Lyme killed my dog
but yeah, humans, gorillas, bonobos, orangutans, chimps, and so on
The allergy only manifests when digested, so it's delayed by about an hour or so. Really shitty when I accidentally eat something I'm not supposed to and don't know it for an hour
Back to armory
Thatโs crazy though
The only decent concealable ones I know of are the spiritus covert and ferro slickster. Might be able to make the jpc work but idk. Also all of those are "concealable" as in, you could probably hide them under a coat.
They make more concealable armor but you're gonna be confined to soft stuff like iiia
Okay yeah, I was thinking that stuff. And I'm talking something that I can wear slick under a coat. And throw a chest rig or velcro mag pouches on if needed.
My ferroro chest rig micro is pretty small. Fits three mags and I could conceal it under a sweatshirt with ease
I can get pics for you if you want when I get home
the overt and covert from spiritus are really about the same size. The only noticeable difference is that the overt has a little molle on the top half
I have a photo I think
And the overt has a zipper for their packs
yeah though you can mix and match front and back plate bags
Oh you talking plate carriers?
I remember finding another covert PC like 2 weeks ago, but can't remember the name.
And yes.
mags may stick out a bit. The lower profile attachment is a plackard, and there's also a chest rig that can be mounted on it if you want an admin pouch
Here's knight with his little carrier
That's a rig though, not a PC
You may be able to just pass for a fat person with the pc on and a bomber jacket over top during the fall and winter
I mean, I'll also get a rig to throw over my carrier.
I have a dedicated PC with pouches and everything. But I also want something slick that I can wear for like PSDs
Apparently Shellback makes their own concealable carrier too.
I think I might get the Slickster when I come back.
I still need a medkit and better plates. Normally have a qor iceplate on there but it's not attached at the moment. Anything I don't need immediate access to goes in the haley flatpack molled to the back
Also I tie down the cables but I had it disassembled
I think I'll be going with an ifak from dark angel medical, and probably some hesco special threat plates once my tax returns finally come in
Might as well run a SMERSH instead of that, it's got more mag pouches and a bigger space for an IFAK
I have one of these and a molle shoulder bag, any tips on a setup? I thought about putting a radio in the oil pouch. There isn't enough room in the pocket for my whole fak but I could put a tq and bandage in there or something.
I'd stick TQs and Bandages in the Hand Grenade and cleaning kit pouches as well
make some little spicy russian throwing bottles ๐
jk if you make them self igniting like you should, you don't want them strapped to your kit
Lol I would, but the tax stamp ๐ฆ
Just keep them in brown paper bags. Cops can't see alcohol if it's wrapped up like that.
coulda sworn there was an episode of the simpsons when homer put a bottle of liquor in a bag and chief wiggum was like, wait where'd it go?
Tax stamp ๐๐๐
That shit is insane
I canโt even imagine some of the PTSD them veterans must have from those tunnels
Thatโs crazy
That's cool
Anybody got reccomendations for a MLOK flashlight with a pressure pad for ak. (Ars apparently wont work preszure pads)
Surefire scoutlight series
Every once in a while I remember this when I see a post.
Use the discount code REEE for discounts at PHLster Dark Star Gear HolsterCo LLC. Dark Angel Medical, LLC and Big Tex Outdoors
I'm looking at getting an ifak and a new holster so I'm definitely using it
K
First poor build
bruh
What ๐ค
Lol
Theyre offset irons ๐ came with it, why not
Offset is fine
that sight placement though
I couldn't get it further back lol trust me I tried, ill have to get different offset rails to be able to scoot it back like 2 inches
It should be the first thing in front of the charging handle, at the very first pic slot
Brush there's no room, had to attach it to the M-Lok
It's basically useless there. Either make room, or don't have it at all. Later on when you can afford it, good flip magnifier design leaves enough room for a flip up backup sight, such as the larue flip mount
Not all that great on that red dot anyway
Totally acceptable to not have backups if the magnifier doesn't leave room, but sticking it there anyway just makes you look bad, and shouldn't be relied on when mounted there anyway.
Red dot's okayish, I mean they're surprisingly durable if that's what you can afford. Has inrange's stamp of approval at least.
Nothing wrong with the dot, just not really made for a magnifier
@EDDSkitz works well, lines up and seems to do what its designed to
Pulled the trigger on my DMR build, all except the barrel. No idea when Faxon is getting their 20" back in stock but I'm not compromising on that
20" Gunner's Profile?
"Heavy flame fluted" they call it
Good for a dmr or for vibe checking steel plates
@kalebdenden thats the idea. Also looking to keep ammo interchangeable between it and my carbine. So xm855 for both
What's everyone's opinion on B.A.D. Levers? Worth using or no?
I don't have experience using them, which is why I ask.
BAD Levers are bad, the idea of using a finger in the trigger guard to drop the bolt on a loaded mag is a ND waiting to happen
@Cannibalistic69th utter nonsense. It needs to be trained with by people who aren't retarded. But calling bolt releases in trigger guards safety hazards is exactly why fat cops shoot themselves cleaning their glocks and think it's a design fault.
BAD levers may have actual mechanical problems but that is an operator deficiency
Applying latteral pressure to a small stob inside the trigger guard infront of the trigger is just begging for a ND, especially when factoring in the sudden shift in mass as the bolt goes home
Yes, experience with them can mitigate the risk as with anything but it is generally a good idea to keep none trigger related functions out of and slightly away from the trigger and trigger guard area
Yeah it makes you faster but I wouldnโt trust it on a duty rifle. Maybe if youโve trained it exclusively
They cause extra wear on the bolt catch sear, leading to bolt catch failure, premature bolt drop, and a variety of other mechanical problems. They also actively cause nd's. People say they won't, then they nd in front of me at the range because their feelings can't override natural human clenching reflexes.
I appreciate the information. Thanks guys
I know all of this.... yet I still want the CZ Bren 2 with a booth catch release in the trigger guard lol
Bad levers basically do the opposite. After a while, you no longer have a bolt catch at all.
Guys faster than you'll ever be use standard controls... practice is worth more than any novelty crap ๐คทโโ๏ธ
If you want to increase the ease of use of your rifle, I suggest the geissele maritime bolt catch. It's much easier to hit without adding bullshit to break off in your fire control group
^
Tactical drug rug hoodie are a thing
Just needed to say, that I hate BAD levers. I'm not worried about dropping a mag or NDing, I just think they're dumb, they get it the way and another thing to get snagged on.
Gimmicks
Marketed to range operators
I've never seen how a BAD lever can cause excessive wear on the BCG or anything else.
Training issues though, I can vouch for that one.
Question to my armor lads; looking to get a new vest, and i want something that is comfortable to train in (physically, not just range)
Whats everyone running? pros/cons? im about 5'11" 215lbs for reference
Minimal style or full coverage?
@EDDSkitz id prefer full coverage.. im honestly thinking about getting another IOTV for cheap just for this purpose
I'm partial to crye and first spear stuff... CPC is nice e because of the support structure
But sounds like you're not trying to spend on a nice carrier?
Another spot where im torn; when i do get another nice carrier, id rather it only be for training days at the range and stuff, not necessarily the vest im wearing to go on a long run or roll around in the sand with
I mean, you wanna train in what you plan on fighting in... a good carrier will take the abuse
@EDDSkitz you mentioned crye, do you run a JPC?
Actually I'm due for an upgrade, running an old TAG full coverage carrier. I dont like the JPC.
I was looking at the first spear AAC, but they have been out of stock for a few months. Probably because they just got a military contract and are running production for that.
I've tried both the AAC and the crye CPC, I like both.
The JPC is a minimalist carrier though
im gonna poke at all the Crye gear again now
sooo many places are working with a 2 month lead time for new orders now
They are super top notch stuff if you have the cash... the only reason I was looking and waiting on the AAC is the buckles. Would've spent my trump bucks on it, but decided to wait and see if they came back in stock. Replaced my RMA plates with some level IV hoplite plates instead.
Thinking of a 10/22 as my first gun when I get state side, not really done much shooting except clays and a 22 would be cheap to learn the fundamentals right?
Absolutely
Where you coming from?
miliradians are superior
thought Iโd let everyone know
Gettingnl tired of my shit falling appart when i need it, need suggestions for a decent pair of every day shoes or boots that will last more than a few months before the tread seperates from the rest of the shoe
I like the Merrill 8"... wears like a sneaker, tough like a boot
Ive got Danner boots, and hiking boots that last, Merrill also lasts...
I try and catch 140-200 boots on sale, buy 2 pairs
I've got a pair of redwing blacksmith boots. They're not made for hiking but work well enough. The only downside seems to be they're a bit slick on smooth floors. Otherwise they're made to last years and years.
Plenty of other good boots out there though, I'd suggest watching some videos from Carl Murawski. They review a lot of boots and other clothes that are made to last for life.
Just tired of dropping 80$ ever coupple of months
Would much rather have a hiking type shoe than a boot but whatever will last im down for
Has anyone ever heard of Hazard 4 or their products
Yeah an $80 pair of boots won't last you. Hell a $150 pair of boots might last a year or two of regular walking on pavement
I wear red wings for work, only thi g I don't kill in 6 months
You don't really get into those 8-10 year boots until you hit 300 or more. Sometimes on sale
granted if they're for work they probably won't even last that long, depending on what you do
I'm a heavy industrial mechanic/electrician... I only get 3 years out of a pair of RW
There's only so much stress that leather and rubber can take after all
But yeah I'd definitely suggest looking at Carl Murawski's youtube channel. They've been in construction for a long time and know a good bit about clothes that last, and practical fashion
But still worth the $350
I work in IT at a grain mill, so I'm in a lot of different environments from an office to mills full of giant industrial machinery, so I found a happy balance with the redwing heritage blacksmith boot. It's not a workboot, but still durable enough to take life. At least so far, haven't had them too long.
Nice, I switched a while ago, on my third pair of the loggers... 3 years on each, and honestly the last time I just got a new pair because it had been 3 years
But I work in a chemical manufacturing facility, so I have to have steel toe, slip resistant, and electrical rated
I've had mine for about 3 weeks now and they're just starting to break in, walking around 8 miles a day. Still not the most comfortable thing but I've been told that because of the cork midsole and stiff leather, they'd be horrible at first and end up super comfortable
Yeah, all redwings are like that
Most good boots with natural materials from what I hear
I've heard it said that a bad shoe will be comfortable to start and uncomfortable after time, while a good shoe is uncomfortable to start but gets more comfortable over time. Then you've got custom stuff which is just always comfortable
but I'm not paying a thousand dollars for a pair of boots at my salary lol
The Merrill 8" I got are comfortable all the way, had them a while now
I wear 5.11 boots. I like them, and they last a while. I have two pairs
5.11 makes decent stuff. I tried their pants and wore them out in two months though
a couple different ones. Right now I'm on a pair of duluth pants and they're holding up decently
I've never heard anything good about 5.11
I wear Blaklader x1600 pants for work, the only thing I can't destroy easily... blew out the Duluth fire hose pants in less than a year
I like the built in kneepad pockets on the x1600's though, I rock some heavy duty waffle style hard rubber with air in each square.
I blew out the firehose pants pretty quickly, but I wanted to try their jeans. So far they seem to be pretty good quality, and a bit better built than the firehose pants
I wanna say the firehose pants lasted me 4 months, which is longer than usual
it's always the crotch that goes
Nice. Welcome to the land of the slightly less oppressed ๐
ha
yeah well ive got to get there first
heres hoping all my meme-ry hasnt put me on too many watch lists
Nah, watch lists are a way of life here.... Obama isn't president anymore
And unlike literally every other country in the world, we let everyone in for the most part.
citizenship as long as you can afford the legal fees and wait times from what I hear
This may be a dumb question but would either of these be a problem running it without a suppressor
either of what?
Maybe the buffer. Your best bet is to get an adjustable gas block
running most suppressors will push more gas back into the receiver. The charging handle is made to direct it away from your face so it doesn't go straight up your nose, which is uncomfortable. The buffer is probably just heavier to take the increased backpressure
I'd probably suggest just going with a regular buffer, adjustable gas block, and suppressor optimized charging handle. Tune the gas block to work without the suppressor, so it'll cycle with or without it
Fair enough, I'd probably just be better off building it then. It's just a 3rd option bc I found a SOLGW m4 76 for a good price, and 2 BCM that I'm looking at
IMO building to spec is always better... most of those companies offer parts and some are better than others at different things.
I feel like I don't know enough about AR's to build one correctly yet
And I'm not looking for anything crazy just a solid rifle for close to mid range
That's why you build one, you learn everything you need to know
They are basic as fuck
I believe you, I just learn a little differently. I'm better at having something complete in my hands and gutting it to learn. Plus my only experience with AR's is with a very clumsy rifle so I'm not certain on which parts and tolerances I prefer
So long as it's actually certified as mil-spec it should be reliable. But some companies go above that mark.
You do need a couple tools to assemble one so if you're not comfortable, I'd suggest getting a complete upper with bcg and charging handle, and a complete lower
Agreed, if you don't have experience with ARs, get an already built upper and lower.
Firearms have an excise tax, but when it comes to parts, the lower is the only thing that makes something a firearm, so you pay less taxes if you get the lower separately
I have hardly any gun experience at all and plan to build my lower. Not my upper though.
Assuming my CovidCash comes that is. If for some reason it doesn't I'll have to settle for being unarmed lol.
Yeah im looking into getting a complete lower and upper separately
Is it normal for my BCG to have a small gap? Or is this not seated correctly?
Also as someone who has never built a gun beforehand...it isn't really that hard. Just have your work looked over by someone reputable before bringing to the range/firing it
It is normal
I'd suggest getting some headspace gauges anyway just to make sure whenever you're building a rifle. You won't be able to see the difference but if it's off, you might feel it lol
It seems I can't breakdown without doing the pivot pin first, I think it's working against the buffer
Something must be off, or it isn't seating properly. I should be able to break it apart more easily, from the back pin first I'm thinking right?
Yeah, back pin first is the standard procedure
It's pretty uncommon to even touch the front pin
Yeah, I rarely bother to touch it. I clean it while it's hinged.
Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that the bolt carrier could be resting too far back, blocking the rifle at the receiver extension, but idk
Hm. I'm afraid to rack the bolt until then, may send pics as I try to take it back apart
Yeah, try bumping the push-thingy. I forgot the name, lol
Forward assist
And if that doesn't work, literally rack it back and release, allow it to slam into battery
Ahh yes, the assist, lol
I'm building an AR this weekend and don't remember part names XD
*when your gun jams because you bought an Anderson so you smash the forward assist until the brass is permanently deformed into the chamber*
Nothing moves if I hit the forward assist
Lol I don't have anything loaded
Dummy rounds come Sunday
Don't be a bitch my boy. It's a gun, not a toy.
