the first thing I noticed was that when I visualized something, played guitar until it was in accord with the vision, then played it for my wife, it made her visualize quite similar things. There's something universal going on there

Also while trying to capture a feeling in notes, I noticed that many commonly done things actively get in the way of that

I concluded that doing that only serves to dilute what meaning is actually there, and resolved not to do it ever even if it means sounding sparse

if I started adding bells and whistles for the sake of trying to make my thing sound "neat," I would ultimately end up with a pop rock chord progression as the logical conclusion of it

if I repeated the same "lol cool sound!!!" process on a synth I'd end up with fartstep

it's all identical in spirit if not in form

I also realized how dumb it is to repeat anything unless absolutely necessary. You don't write a good paragraph in a story and then say "lol this is good" and copy paste it 5 times, that would be retarded. Yet, that's industry standard
