i5-2540M, 8GB DDR3 (2 x 4GB), 240GB Sandisk SSD, Intel HD 3000, and a 1600x900 IPS.

2018-12-30 16:23:11 UTC

$90 for that little thing ain't bad

2018-12-30 16:23:14 UTC

I'd pay that.

2018-12-30 16:23:18 UTC

Sucks that NVMe doesn't work

2018-12-30 16:23:21 UTC

I don't even have NVMe on this

2018-12-30 16:23:33 UTC

Stuck with mSATA and ExpressCard

2018-12-30 16:23:42 UTC

I want to try to put a non-NVMe SSD into it but I don't want to waste the money

2018-12-30 16:23:47 UTC

the specs say NVMe should work

2018-12-30 16:24:06 UTC

imagine having a 1 tb SSD inside a 11.6" netbook

2018-12-30 16:24:19 UTC

that'd be nuts.

2018-12-30 16:24:20 UTC

t420 suck tbh

2018-12-30 16:24:27 UTC

T420 ain't bad it's just old

2018-12-30 16:24:31 UTC

just get t430 and enjoy your usb3

2018-12-30 16:24:52 UTC

I mean, I've got a USB 3 ExpressCard

2018-12-30 16:25:00 UTC

2018-12-30 16:25:18 UTC

doesn't that kill the battery

2018-12-30 16:25:30 UTC

I don't have a battery in this.

2018-12-30 16:25:36 UTC

It died a few weeks ago

2018-12-30 16:25:36 UTC

i've been thinking of getting one for my x220

2018-12-30 16:25:38 UTC

oh

2018-12-30 16:26:15 UTC

xx30 with classic keyboard is the biggest shittiest meme. egpu is better than this

2018-12-30 16:28:19 UTC

not sure if I should trust 9 cell batteries from Amazon

2018-12-30 16:28:37 UTC

There are some replacement batteries I could buy from there so I don't have to deal with import

2018-12-30 16:28:58 UTC

for t420?

2018-12-30 16:29:02 UTC

i can give u taobao link

2018-12-30 16:29:11 UTC

taobao would help

2018-12-30 16:29:52 UTC

thank

2018-12-30 16:30:23 UTC

now to throw my shekels at an agent

2018-12-30 16:31:05 UTC

cheaper as well, $33 CAD vs the $45-$60 CAD it would cost on Amazon

2018-12-30 16:31:28 UTC

but it is used

2018-12-30 16:31:33 UTC

oof

2018-12-30 16:31:53 UTC

received mine. first used was in 2014. 96% health. lg cell

2018-12-30 16:32:12 UTC

Last time i checked my health on my 6 cell battery, it was at 15%

2018-12-30 16:32:12 UTC

less than 5 cycle

2018-12-30 16:33:11 UTC

How do you check battery health?

2018-12-30 16:33:14 UTC

i was wrong

2018-12-30 16:33:33 UTC

manufactured apr 2015, used aug 2015

2018-12-30 16:33:40 UTC

on windows, lenovo vantage

2018-12-30 16:33:51 UTC

I used lxqt's battery manager

2018-12-30 16:34:17 UTC

>2019
>720p

2018-12-30 16:34:19 UTC

The health of that battery gradually fucked itself until it got down to 30min

2018-12-30 16:34:24 UTC

@porco do they come with freedos like in thailand lol

2018-12-30 16:34:29 UTC

then it just stopped working

2018-12-30 16:34:31 UTC

11 inch laptop friend

2018-12-30 16:34:51 UTC

anything less than 1080p is unacceptable

2018-12-30 16:34:57 UTC

even my chinkphone is better than that

2018-12-30 16:35:23 UTC

@bentech no it came with Windows 10 S + 2 years of free Office 365 + 1 TB onedrive

2018-12-30 16:35:44 UTC

I booted windows, activated one drive and installed Linux

2018-12-30 16:36:02 UTC

I only use Windows on my desktop

2018-12-30 16:36:07 UTC

I use Linux on everything else

2018-12-30 16:36:39 UTC

I play fighting games and 90% of them refuse to work on linux so, it's rip.

2018-12-30 16:37:22 UTC

Skullgirls is the only damn fighting game that'll work on Linux since it's native.

2018-12-30 16:37:32 UTC

do you mean mortal kombat kind of gmaes

2018-12-30 16:37:34 UTC

or something els

2018-12-30 16:37:41 UTC

how about wine

2018-12-30 16:38:02 UTC

BBCF gives an error with both Proton and regular versions of Wine.

2018-12-30 16:38:13 UTC

It's not supported in the slightest.

2018-12-30 16:38:22 UTC

So does BBTAG

2018-12-30 16:38:45 UTC

I'm more talking, airdasher types

2018-12-30 16:39:36 UTC

Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, Arcana Hearts, all that shit doesn't work on Linux

2018-12-30 16:39:40 UTC

Even with Wine.

2018-12-30 16:39:57 UTC

>gaymes

2018-12-30 16:41:02 UTC

at least I can play doom on this thing

2018-12-30 16:41:09 UTC

well

2018-12-30 16:41:11 UTC

gzdoom

2018-12-30 16:43:33 UTC

quake is superior to doom

2018-12-30 16:50:02 UTC

quake is better.

2018-12-30 16:51:37 UTC

x is better than y

2018-12-30 16:57:06 UTC

In chromosome? No

2018-12-31 01:34:41 UTC

Y'all have an X370/X470 motherboard of choice? I ended up going with the Crosshair VI Hero WiFi because it had the best power setup, but I'm having issues with USB ports failing, thinking about warrantying it and selling the replacement to get something else, sounds like I'm not the only one with the issue.

2018-12-31 02:01:23 UTC

gigabyte have stepped it up and got rid of the trash uefi they had in x370 days, so I can recommend the x470 aorus gaming 7 wifi

2018-12-31 02:03:52 UTC

really sweet VRM for OC and their bclk implementation breaks the AMD standard and is way better than what everybody else offers

2018-12-31 02:04:18 UTC

if you set bclk on ryzen it's meant to lock the cpu at base multiplier but it just doesn't on Gigabyte boards

2018-12-31 02:04:24 UTC

so that's a good thing I guess

2018-12-31 02:08:59 UTC

I thought the unexpected competer on AM4 was MSI with their vrm design?

2018-12-31 02:09:13 UTC

what

2018-12-31 02:09:29 UTC

uhhhh

2018-12-31 02:09:30 UTC

yes it was

2018-12-31 02:09:36 UTC

but only on the low-mid end

2018-12-31 02:09:48 UTC

their b350 and low end x470 boards are great pickups for the $$$

2018-12-31 02:10:06 UTC

but as the C6H is a high end board I'd assume he's going for another high end board

2018-12-31 02:10:18 UTC

ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ
Still haven't made the jump. Guess i'll wait for 2 now

2018-12-31 02:13:21 UTC

Yeah X470 prices will dip when X570 comes out along with Zen2 soonโ„ข

2018-12-31 11:58:36 UTC

>i9

2018-12-31 12:00:33 UTC

at first i thought they got a z270 motherboard because of the manual

2018-12-31 12:00:37 UTC

also what the fuck is that SSD

2018-12-31 12:00:42 UTC

chink ssd

2018-12-31 12:01:18 UTC

i have a 9900K but i don't think I would recommend anyone to buy one lmao

2018-12-31 12:01:28 UTC

9700K is more than enough

2018-12-31 12:01:48 UTC

especially not when you buy a 1070 ti

2018-12-31 12:02:17 UTC

at least its not 7820X :D

2018-12-31 12:02:54 UTC

also whats max ghz on 9900K for single/dual core setup

2018-12-31 12:02:57 UTC

where you can clock more

2018-12-31 12:03:11 UTC

i think stock turbo boost is two core 5GHz

2018-12-31 12:03:18 UTC

all core 4.6 or 4.7

2018-12-31 12:04:02 UTC

i didn't bother overclocking mine yet

2018-12-31 12:04:17 UTC

>i9

2018-12-31 12:04:22 UTC

\*burns your house down\*

2018-12-31 12:04:24 UTC

nothing personel

2018-12-31 12:04:36 UTC

mine peaks at 65 ยฐC under load

2018-12-31 12:04:53 UTC

yeah 95W tdp aint gonna burn much

2018-12-31 12:05:07 UTC

unlike certain 250w tdp GPUs

2018-12-31 12:05:23 UTC

i disabled the stock TDP <:alismirk:230784726615588865>

2018-12-31 12:05:30 UTC

huh

2018-12-31 12:05:32 UTC

95W?

2018-12-31 12:05:40 UTC

150W

2018-12-31 12:05:55 UTC

yeah 9900K STOCK TDP is 95W

2018-12-31 12:05:57 UTC

I thought i9 were in 130ish range

2018-12-31 12:06:03 UTC

and more

2018-12-31 12:06:12 UTC

way more when OCd

2018-12-31 12:06:16 UTC
2018-12-31 12:06:18 UTC

no, it's 95W advertised and what it should be with default BIOS settings

2018-12-31 12:06:41 UTC

it can do it fine tbh, as long as you don't overclock it

2018-12-31 12:06:50 UTC

this is with my fans off <:alismirk:230784726615588865>

but who the fuck runs prime 95 all day

2018-12-31 12:07:13 UTC

2018-12-31 12:07:52 UTC

@Goz3rr you can get that kind of workload when compiling jvm/c++ projects a lot

2018-12-31 12:07:53 UTC

for hours

2018-12-31 12:08:00 UTC

so it's not completely unreasonable

2018-12-31 12:08:21 UTC

nah, gcc doesn't produce anywhere near as much heat as prime95 small fft

2018-12-31 12:08:35 UTC

AVX and FPU instructions are what really heat up a CPU

2018-12-31 12:08:40 UTC

neither are used by compilers

2018-12-31 12:09:10 UTC

but on stuff like stress-calculations and such

2018-12-31 12:09:28 UTC

... reason why i have cryorig H5 in my 2600k

2018-12-31 12:09:39 UTC

yeah that would do it

2018-12-31 12:10:21 UTC

h5 iirc is specified for 160w (without fans)

2018-12-31 12:10:38 UTC

(2600k being 95w TDP too )

2018-12-31 12:10:56 UTC

and i have 2 fans on the heatsink sooo~

2018-12-31 12:11:15 UTC

OC it

2018-12-31 12:11:25 UTC

i watercooled my gpu and cpu

2018-12-31 12:11:30 UTC

but run my system passive most of the time

2018-12-31 12:11:35 UTC

it is already OCd duh

2018-12-31 12:11:44 UTC

custom loop or aio?

2018-12-31 12:11:48 UTC

custom

2018-12-31 12:12:25 UTC

friendly reminder than AIO is an overpriced meme that performs at best as good as regular air coolers

2018-12-31 12:12:31 UTC

as some wise man said : There is no "overkill." There is only "open fire" and "time to reload."

2018-12-31 12:12:32 UTC

at triple the price

2018-12-31 12:12:38 UTC

AIO has better aesthetic

2018-12-31 12:13:06 UTC

if you want aesthetic, you probably want a custom loop anyway

2018-12-31 12:13:18 UTC

2018-12-31 12:13:33 UTC

2018-12-31 12:13:35 UTC

so i had to make do

2018-12-31 12:13:41 UTC

also those pre-made loops are actualy way more effective than air ones

2018-12-31 16:35:25 UTC

@cam-peterson that's not technology related, but very cool!

2019-01-02 03:37:56 UTC

What size are SSD screws? I'm tired of the shit hardware included with everything, going to just go buy a bunch if good stuff and use that for builds.

2019-01-02 03:50:24 UTC

m2 friend

2019-01-02 03:51:39 UTC

Not the new SSDs, the older 2.5" ones

2019-01-02 03:53:25 UTC

did i said m2. i mean m3

2019-01-02 03:53:47 UTC

fine thread m3, coarse thread 6-32unc

2019-01-02 03:54:13 UTC

Both close enough to match?

2019-01-02 03:55:02 UTC

both diameter around 3mm

2019-01-02 03:55:29 UTC

usually m3 screw. length varied with with chassis thickness

2019-01-02 03:55:50 UTC

u could tried ~~3 or~~ 5 mm length

2019-01-02 04:04:44 UTC

Right on, I'll grab a few of those. Thanks!

2019-01-02 06:42:11 UTC

How do I reset an AMI bios in a tablet without removable battery and single frame case without screws to unplug the cmos battery?

Hard mode: the gpu has been deactivated in the bios so I don't see anything

2019-01-02 06:43:03 UTC

I tried ESC to enter the bios blind, then F9 for load defaults and enter to confirm, then F10 to exit and enter to confirm, nothing happened

2019-01-02 06:43:11 UTC

Maybe the USB controller is also deactivated

2019-01-02 06:43:21 UTC

riperoni

2019-01-02 06:55:35 UTC

You say it's ded beyond salvation?

2019-01-02 06:55:49 UTC

It's a coworkers tablet, he tried to install Linux on it for some reason

2019-01-02 06:56:51 UTC

no. i mean riperoni as rip ur life

2019-01-02 06:57:25 UTC

no other way than to power cycle that bih

2019-01-02 07:41:53 UTC

Maybe letting the battery discharge to 0 will trigger a reset and there's no actual cmos battery inside

2019-01-02 07:42:21 UTC
