Having tons of credit cards tends to be a uniquely American thing. 10 is a lot regardless, but having a couple is pretty standard over here and seems less weird than it does to the rest of the world. Between going into debt being more of an American problem, we get more fraud protection on credit cards, and there are hella choices for rewards for using credit, since they want to sucker you into paying 10-30% APR interest.
