God is just another way to think about infinity... we all are children of God, children of infinity, existing within this small pocket of time and space within this particular universe which makes our sentience possible... forming a connection with God (aka what exists outside of this universe) is important because, think of it this way... imagine an autonomous character in a virtual world/game on your computer where the character's consciousness has the opportunity to be transferred into another body once his life is over, but it depends on the connections made within the character's brain... if it doesn't form the proper connections with the parent system (the computer running the simulation aka God, in our case), its consciousness will be "lost" (on its own) because it doesn't have the neural pathways to make the transition
