Well gents happy to say the race went well. Finished in under 30 minutes, ran with lots of beautiful white families, and got a flyer for a "single and mingle" race in February.

2018-01-27 15:03:21 UTC

Very cool, brother ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

2018-01-27 16:46:51 UTC

@Warren H awesome man good way to meet in-shape girls I bet

2018-01-27 16:50:38 UTC

Unfortunately I didn't see many girls my age at this race but perhaps if I do the Valentine's Day singles 5k there could be. Lol idk @Deleted User

2018-01-27 20:46:30 UTC

@Deleted User I know. It might take me awhile of conditioning my body to be that fast. But I'll do it for the meme

2018-01-27 22:36:04 UTC

When I went to university and saw the rec center for the first time

2018-01-27 22:36:13 UTC

I felt like I was on a steampunk spaceship

2018-01-27 22:36:30 UTC

There were so many machines I couldn't even identify besides the treadmill

2018-01-27 22:36:52 UTC

I still don't know any of them

2018-01-27 22:36:58 UTC

Other than that bike machine

2018-01-27 22:37:04 UTC

Just because I've used one

2018-01-27 22:37:44 UTC

Lmao

2018-01-27 22:37:50 UTC

You're killing me

2018-01-27 22:38:06 UTC

Tbh any time I see gym equipment

2018-01-27 22:38:15 UTC

I think of our apparently beefy ancestors

2018-01-27 22:38:22 UTC

Who didn't have gym equipment

2018-01-27 22:38:45 UTC

They did farm work which kept them fit and agile

2018-01-27 22:38:49 UTC

10/10 would exercise by helping their grandfather cut down trees

2018-01-27 23:08:53 UTC

U should be lifting, nibba

2018-01-27 23:47:49 UTC

I felt like I was on a steampunk spaceship ๐Ÿ˜‚

2018-01-27 23:50:35 UTC

Our ancestors were not beefy. They were a lot shorter and smaller than we are. The Vikings, for example, the giants of Europe. They were apparently the tallest of the Europeans. Average height? 5โ€™7โ€

Texas rangers. Look at their bodies. No mass at all through the chest and the shoulders.

2018-01-27 23:53:59 UTC

I went and visited the museum where they have George Washingtonโ€™s famous military jacket. He was very tall, like 6โ€™2โ€ or 3. His jacket was about as big through the shoulders and chest of a modern adolescent male of about 14 years old.

2018-01-27 23:59:35 UTC

2018-01-28 00:05:07 UTC

I have no right being this tall

2018-01-28 00:07:06 UTC

This gives me consolation because I have always been insecure about being small. I stopped growing when I entered high school

2018-01-28 00:07:11 UTC

Not after I graduated lo

2018-01-28 00:07:14 UTC

Lol

2018-01-28 00:07:41 UTC

Mfw when I'll never look juicy cuz I'm so tall

2018-01-28 15:03:47 UTC

@Deleted User I went to a machine shop we do business with to drop of an engine head. The guy working there was about 5โ€™5 and 140 lbs but he threw around the cylinder head like it was nothing. Big muscles = strong is a meme.

2018-01-28 15:16:40 UTC

Functional (/practical) strength

2018-01-28 15:44:56 UTC

Agreed

2018-01-29 23:06:11 UTC

Thanks brother! Was a lot of fun

2018-01-30 01:15:44 UTC

What wasw your time?

2018-01-30 01:26:13 UTC

It was slower, it was my gf's first event like this so she more or less set the pace while I motivated her to push herself

2018-01-30 01:26:53 UTC

Great fun though, can't wait to have the IE crew back for the warrior dash in July

2018-01-30 02:42:47 UTC

2018-01-30 21:53:20 UTC

Between local generic gym and YMCA which do you goys recommend is best for money as a gym beginner

2018-01-30 21:53:52 UTC

Local generic gym ie 24 hr

2018-01-30 21:56:10 UTC

Yea that's an advantage

2018-01-30 21:56:52 UTC

Generally local generic gyms have better environments better hours and more amenities such as a sauna and have less plebes

2018-01-30 21:57:11 UTC

But it's really about whatever place is convenient enough for you to make a habit out of going

2018-01-30 21:57:18 UTC

Close to work or close to home

2018-01-30 21:57:44 UTC

I think my step sister works at the YMCA

2018-01-30 21:57:48 UTC

That could be helpful

2018-01-30 21:59:19 UTC

Might garner a discount or something

2018-01-30 21:59:24 UTC

Worth checking out

2018-01-30 22:00:13 UTC

I went to the YMCA years ago, I liked it. Lots of people there, but no one using the heavy weights. Plus my YMCA had a bad ass locker room, sauna, steam room, massive shower room. All pluses for me.

2018-01-30 22:01:30 UTC

Tbh I've only used a university rec center like once so I have no idea what to look for

2018-01-30 22:03:13 UTC

Gyms that have lots of machines are less intimidating to start.

Gyms with free weights are better for strength training.

2018-01-30 22:14:45 UTC

I assume there's someone there who can explain the machines and stuff?

2018-01-30 22:17:53 UTC

Yeah, there will always be someone there who can explain which machines are what

2018-01-30 22:33:13 UTC

How much do most memberships cost?

2018-01-31 00:21:56 UTC

I pay 45.99 per month for 24 hour fitness

2018-01-31 00:22:46 UTC

Not sure what YMCA costs but I imagine it's less

2018-01-31 00:37:09 UTC

I'm stuck in a contract paying $43.29 for an Anytime Fitness. The gym that I actually go to costs $10 and is infinitely better than the Anytime Fitness! I recommend you look around and weigh your options before you sign a contract. Learning life lessons is fun.

2018-01-31 00:40:53 UTC

@StrawberryArmada
1) My former gym was huge and cost $30/month

2) Instead of looking for someone to show you how do use machines/freeweights....
A) Consider coming up with a plan online. There are an infinate amount of articles and free weight training routines availlable.

2018-01-31 00:42:24 UTC

@StrawberryArmada Here are some resources. Good on you for wanting to seek self improvement!

2018-01-31 00:52:59 UTC

Should I worry about not being able to do certain exercise? Is there any way to tell what I'll be able to handle?

2018-01-31 00:59:00 UTC

@StrawberryArmada Bro, find a beginner plan from someone who you see as an expert.

Then follow the plan with discipline. After 3-4 months of lifting, you'll have the experience to know what you want, and how to achieve it.

For me, Mark Rippetoe was my guru. I followed his starting strength plan for like a year, and I gained 20 solid lbs of bodymass.

2018-01-31 01:39:34 UTC

@StrawberryArmada Overthinking it, just go lift
