Wish me luck friends I'm doing a 5k tomorrow morning
@Warren H#1406 good luck!
@Warren H#1406
๐
Well gents happy to say the race went well. Finished in under 30 minutes, ran with lots of beautiful white families, and got a flyer for a "single and mingle" race in February.
Very cool, brother ๐๐ป
@Warren H awesome man good way to meet in-shape girls I bet
Unfortunately I didn't see many girls my age at this race but perhaps if I do the Valentine's Day singles 5k there could be. Lol idk @Deleted User
And thanks @Deleted User
When youโre 14 and your buddy is 88.
As I'm training for next 5k I'm going to try to finish at 14:00.88
Tfw no fashy gym buddies
Warren thatโs hella fast man. @Warren H
@Deleted User I know. It might take me awhile of conditioning my body to be that fast. But I'll do it for the meme
Strength through Joy.
@Deleted User Tf when no gym
Skinny strawberry nigga ๐
When I went to university and saw the rec center for the first time
I felt like I was on a steampunk spaceship
There were so many machines I couldn't even identify besides the treadmill
I still don't know any of them
Other than that bike machine
Just because I've used one
Lmao
You're killing me
Tbh any time I see gym equipment
I think of our apparently beefy ancestors
Who didn't have gym equipment
They did farm work which kept them fit and agile
10/10 would exercise by helping their grandfather cut down trees
If you aren't doing that type of hard labor
U should be lifting, nibba
I felt like I was on a steampunk spaceship ๐
Our ancestors were not beefy. They were a lot shorter and smaller than we are. The Vikings, for example, the giants of Europe. They were apparently the tallest of the Europeans. Average height? 5โ7โ
Wanna see Americaโs toughest men from the Wild West?
Texas rangers. Look at their bodies. No mass at all through the chest and the shoulders.
I went and visited the museum where they have George Washingtonโs famous military jacket. He was very tall, like 6โ2โ or 3. His jacket was about as big through the shoulders and chest of a modern adolescent male of about 14 years old.
Heheh
Manlet
Dang
I am huge dude
I have no right being this tall
This gives me consolation because I have always been insecure about being small. I stopped growing when I entered high school
Not after I graduated lo
Lol
I was claimed my height was redistributed else where...
Mfw when I got everyone's height
Mfw when I'll never look juicy cuz I'm so tall
@Deleted User I went to a machine shop we do business with to drop of an engine head. The guy working there was about 5โ5 and 140 lbs but he threw around the cylinder head like it was nothing. Big muscles = strong is a meme.
Functional (/practical) strength
@tim a.#7632 I donโt know that Iโd go that far but to your point https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nbVmRT13dXY
But letโs not kid ourselves too much. Modern weightlifting records crush old weightlifting records.
Agreed
9 more pounds to go!
Are you trying to gain or lose?
Always gains

Bought my ticket to IE conference. Letโs show up lean and mean.
Don't be this guy.
#boomerbelly
@BigBadSaxon - ID Lose fat right now. Cutting to 170 but trying to at least keep most of my muscle mass. Tis a challenge but I'm surviving thus far.
Anyone ever have a lack of appetite after working out? I'm trying to eat my post workout meal and I'm having a hard time wanting to eat
Ran another OCR this weekend with my girl, a 5k like we all ran back in NE in July
Awesome, brother. Looking chad
Thanks brother! Was a lot of fun
What wasw your time?
It was slower, it was my gf's first event like this so she more or less set the pace while I motivated her to push herself
Great fun though, can't wait to have the IE crew back for the warrior dash in July
Awesome @BryceB-ND#1845
Good man @BryceB-ND
Between local generic gym and YMCA which do you goys recommend is best for money as a gym beginner
Local generic gym ie 24 hr
Yea that's an advantage
Generally local generic gyms have better environments better hours and more amenities such as a sauna and have less plebes
But it's really about whatever place is convenient enough for you to make a habit out of going
Close to work or close to home
I think my step sister works at the YMCA
That could be helpful
Might garner a discount or something
Worth checking out
I went to the YMCA years ago, I liked it. Lots of people there, but no one using the heavy weights. Plus my YMCA had a bad ass locker room, sauna, steam room, massive shower room. All pluses for me.
Tbh I've only used a university rec center like once so I have no idea what to look for
Gyms that have lots of machines are less intimidating to start.
Gyms with free weights are better for strength training.
I assume there's someone there who can explain the machines and stuff?
Yeah, there will always be someone there who can explain which machines are what
How much do most memberships cost?
I pay 45.99 per month for 24 hour fitness
Not sure what YMCA costs but I imagine it's less
I'm stuck in a contract paying $43.29 for an Anytime Fitness. The gym that I actually go to costs $10 and is infinitely better than the Anytime Fitness! I recommend you look around and weigh your options before you sign a contract. Learning life lessons is fun.
@StrawberryArmada
1) My former gym was huge and cost $30/month
2) Instead of looking for someone to show you how do use machines/freeweights....
A) Consider coming up with a plan online. There are an infinate amount of articles and free weight training routines availlable.
@StrawberryArmada Here are some resources. Good on you for wanting to seek self improvement!
Should I worry about not being able to do certain exercise? Is there any way to tell what I'll be able to handle?
@StrawberryArmada Bro, find a beginner plan from someone who you see as an expert.
Then follow the plan with discipline. After 3-4 months of lifting, you'll have the experience to know what you want, and how to achieve it.
For me, Mark Rippetoe was my guru. I followed his starting strength plan for like a year, and I gained 20 solid lbs of bodymass.
@StrawberryArmada Overthinking it, just go lift
