I think people always panic to much about what "might" come about, they over value what is happening in the moment (its normal, humans try to avoid bad outcomes), But it causes people to keep repeating the old "now this time", such and such will happen.
You can get small scale problems, but nothing major is likely to happen soon, the only big problem i would see. Is if trump runs and wins (so watch out for the losers). Or, if the other side wins, what that person will do (in so far as taking away legal rights).
@Shadows do you think that there is still room for conversation or the line has been drawn already and all you can do is prep.
I guess it's just my personality that makes me feel like the time for the battle of words has passed and raising awareness only makes you look paranoid
But @Shadows you do have a point of taking hold of what is right here and now rather than focusing too much on what might happen
I've been dealing with people for decades of "This or That" will happen, or, just let it burn to start over. And sure some bad things do happen (they always will), so its always good to be prepared (if you can be). But you shouldn't over value that concern, its not healthy.
I tend to think when its really time for to cross into violence we'll know. The left has yet to start bombings again or to start shootings on even the level of Islamic terror so they haven't gone that far yet. On the government side we're not as a bad as places like France or the UK so we know we're not there yet either. Til then its still time to play politics and try to find that path forward without violence.

The reason it happens is because politicians see it as a prestige legacy item. Also, the damage isn't visible until after they leave office, so the incentives line up for them to do it
I live in Vegas, and several voting guides went around. One of the labels was that they gave money for the stadium. It was bipartisan support for it. Voters seemed to not factor in whether they voted for it or not, so it seems like people don't punish politician for doing such things. (the voting ended up being purely tribal and not issues based)
Yeah, that's what I figured. People let them get away with it, even if they don't like it.
