That's the month I joined too.
I wish I joined earlier so I could brag about joining in 2016
Hey, it was valentines weekend. My 2 year anniversary!
My account says February 1st
idk if that refers to application date, or interview date, or what
Yeah I submitted my application right around the 14th in 2017
I joined IE around the same time I joined College Republicans
and to think I was in both the whole time and the CRs had zero idea
I applied about a week before my birthday and joined about a week after
I joined IE when I heard the call for the best of the best.
I said to myself: "that's me, I'll check it out."
>tfw it's impossible to find computer science internships in Spokane ๐ฉ
Intern as a TA for your CompSci teacher.
don't you have to be, like, a really good student to be a TA?
I doubt it.
all my good grades are in public speaking
Just be the guy they like.
I wish that was my major
I mean communications
I mean not actually, because it probably pays nothing
but I still wish I had a different major
If your professors like you, they'd probably be happy to give you a TA job. My one friend was offered one for a class he never even took.
15 years from now when your Comms major buddy is still in debt and you are deciding what car to buy I think you will understand lol.
I won't be super rich or anything
graduates of my school have pretty low incomes
My actual smart friends found jobs that they can do without university and still make decent money
I would highly recommend to younger people looking into that before deciding to go to university
I feel like you talk about this every night, Jacob.
ya you're right
make sure to mention buying a car again
"The average person who did x earns y"
oh okay, cool. Are you going to resign to being average or are you going to choose to live an extraordinary life?
eh we could debate the validity of the statistics but I think you're right, I need to find something else to talk about
You're clearly above average intelligence. You'll do fine if you're motivated.
It's okay to be concerned about your future, but don't set yourself up with a career "predestination-ist" mindset. So dumb.
@Jacob shoot for security before anything else is probably pretty sound advice. stay ambitious but be smart about it.
so true. i did a similar thing by rigid planning years ago and failed successfully. now, i go with the flow of things.
I appreciate the motivation. To be clear, though, the money isn't that important to me. When I talk about this stuff it's not with the intent of being pessimistic. @Papa Pizzagate
I have some pretty fair life plans, but Iโm still always looking at where I can try to get my foot in the door with more ambitious goals.
@Jacob there is literally 0 virtue in being poor.
oh no it's not that
Alot of people romanticize it. But it's pointless and counterproductive.
I would never *reject* the opportunity to gain money
The problem is to become very wealthy you generally need to risk becoming poor and in a world like ours is at the moment economic stability is probably a serious concern
Especially for someone still in or just graduating college
Loans and all
dont spend money
thats my mantra
^not the worst idea.
Invest.
I would reject money if involved a certain country in the middle east
What I mean is I would never reject money just for the sake of rejecting money
I guess I can't exactly say that because if I want something I kind of get it, but for the most part I save most of the money I make
@Jacob Just remember that this isn't the 1950s where the job you get at 20 is the one you'll do for the next 45 years. If you get an internship, great! If not, do service sector work and try again next summer.
I'm not getting my hopes up too much for an internship
I don't have that much computer science coursework completed, and most of the internships are going to be in Seattle, not Spokane
So I'm not gonna be super disappointed or anything if I don't get one
I'm somewhat resigned to not getting an internship this summer too, but I'll still be working full time no matter what.
My goal for 2019-2020 is to grow my business to the point that, if needed, I can provide employment or a summer job above market rate to IE members if they fall on hard times.
Ya I'm definitely not gonna be a NEET. Honestly, working a service sector job and living in my own apartment sounds pretty nice. The only problem is I'm not gaining experience, but I can probably sort that out later.
Iโm gonna start my own gaming league
internships are overrated; they do no necessarily improve your standing as compared to that of other students
Well you certainly have the practice @Kingfish
Controlling employees is awful
That probably depends on the field and the people reading your resume
It probably wouldn't be that difficult to find an internship in Seattle, I just *really* don't wanna go to Seattle. Rather do entry level work in Spokane.
Internships are pretty good tbh
Depends on the field I suppose
not really. for example, it is now standard that most pre-med students acquire internships during their undergraduate years. however, there is no guarantee that this alone will earn you high marks when applying for med school
Well I think the point is that they're complimentary and help your standing
I'm not super familiar with the medical field.
They absolutely help if youโre right out of college and have little experience in your field. They canโt *hurt* your standing
But I know that throughout my career that they've helped people I know get hired. Most people I knew that were hired out of college had done interships. Met very few that had not.
From what I've heard, internships are pretty much necessary for computer science
^This is true from my experience. That or have some type of app or software development to point to
it is not a question of whether internships hurt oneโs chances or not. but im merely pointing out that an internship does not necessarily give you bonus points towards your resume
Yeah for sure, lots of things fall into that
I think it varies quite a bit
Maybe I'll be able to get an internship after college
I don't know how it works
If you're doing CS, depending on what you want to do after college I highly suggest you start developing an app or piece of software to point to
honestly, all I want is to be self sufficient from my parents
and have a job that isn't too stressful
@Lawrence - TX yes, this is perhaps a much better approach for those in computer science
Definitely. How do you get there? You're likely going to have a stressful job especially right out of college
I mean... fast food wasn't stressful lol
but I need more than that
@mella I think the point is, is that generally it cannot hurt you. For the most part, it can only help.
I've never not hired, or heard of someone being turned down for a job for having an internship
A lot of companies use internships to see if they want you as an employee long term
Did you have an internship? Frankly I never did one after college.
@TMatthews absolutely
Saw multiple people get hired after successful internships
Are post-college jobs really that stressful?
im not disagreeing with you, @Lawrence - TX. i only believe a more individualized path will differentiate between two applicants.
Well it depends @Jacob
CS? probably
I'm gonna need some time to de-stress after this
i held an internship position within the gene therapy field at an ivy league institution. if anything, short story here, it confused people as to what i was aiming for
therefore, my argument is decide on something that will set you apart, @Jacob
Thanks, I appreciate that
>be me
>getting a degree in social sciences
>professor emails asking if I'm interested in grad school opportunities
>thinks to self "hell no I couldn't keep my mouth shut about the marxist corruption of anthropology"
>emails professor back "no, not right after college, I want to work first"
staying in college long enough to get a master's degree in *any* subject takes some serious dedication
I'm only 23 and in high school I remember being taught about the concepts of braindrain and cultural diffusion when two cultures interact with one another for an extended period of time, But I doubt that's taught in high schools anymore, it would probably be considered racist and xenophobic.
I just want to make America Great.
I would get a masters in some sort of applied geography/remote sensing, but definitely not Anthro. The field is rife with people who consider the entire basis of anthropology to be institutionalized racism. Basically any mention of a biological connection to race will get you ostracized from the academic community
I just wanna have a Trump Steak on my plate.
nasty well done steak
no thank you
@Drover Tom I have to take anthropology 102 right now and it's a joke.
It's literally "there's only one race the human race" for an hour and a half. It's utter nonsense
It's so telling how they try to program people like that. It's so against nature that They have to start this type of programming in grade school
My professor made us read an article about how race doesn't exist so I refuted it and got 100%
Dude as an experiment I started writing the most globohomo content in my English class and the teacher likes me more now haha
@Jacob really? That's surprising.
It's such a blatant display of indoctrination
You know what's not indoctrination? The taco bell I just had. It was great
The Paradigm is shifting. We are growing in support more and more. Average people see these things and are fed up with being told to feel guilty for who they are.
Yeah Taco Bell is bangin though
I know our camp thinks magapedes are stupid but it really shows that there are a lot of people that are sick of all the poz when you see tens of thousands of people at his rallies
Honestly I think of magapedes as uninitiated identitarians. It's like they're unaware of what they already know.
Haha yeah they're an interesting case
They will find the truth. It will just take time, the Paradigm only has to shift so much before the rest of the folks just fall like dominoes
@Jordan - MD ya I would constantly disagree with the professor and still got an A
Like they have all the pieces of the puzzle but they're not putting it together
@Current Ronin that's right. I used to be a liberal turned magapede. These things take time but someone actually looking for the truth will find it. I did.
@Jacob it sounds like you had some pretty good arguments then, it's awesome that teacher was honest enough to be able to grade your paper on merit and not on political bias
She seemed to be a free speech type
@Jordan - MD oh dude for sure. I ran the poltical gambit like everyone else here I'm sure. I definitely didn't start off based and red pilled
@Jacob from what I hear that's rare on a campus nowadays
though it's also a fairly right wing campus, so she might have gotten in trouble if she tried something
well, I'm in a red area
she was definitely a leftist though
Being a libertarian was kind of fun though haha
I actually still have a lot of left over libertarian tendencies
Libertarianism is a very valid stance in a homogeneous culture
Unfortunately that is not what we have, but it can work when applied to a culture with similar customs and traditions
There's a book out called white right and libertarian and I wanna check it out
TDS had the author on and he seemed like a smart dude
I still believe in a social pressure to maintain certain values that we hold dear, but I don't believe that social pressure in and of itself conflicts with a Libertarian government. As long as the government is strong enough to maintain the borders and defend the people that's what's important
I mean why wouldn't you be able to maintain your culture in a libertarian society?
Because of things like radical individualism, but again that's where social pressure comes in
In an all white libertarian society there would be a ton of culture right?
People could just be themselves
well, we have to remember that the system we had in the past led us to where we are today
so not *every* system works in a homogeneous society, because some of those systems lead us to situations like what we have right now
we *did* have a homogeneous society, and the system we had destroyed it
Hmm yeah I guess that's true
So it would have to be nationalist libertianism?
If that's not an oxymoron haha
@Jacob that's right, and a lot of that was due to manipulation of the media, although the media impacted our culture and mitigated a lot of those previously held social pressures that prevented people from being so openly degenerate for lack of a better term.
All I'm saying is that we need to retain a sort of social pressure in order to maintain a homogenous culture
And that I still think that falls in line with a libertarian government because social pressures are not necessarily laws
@Current Ronin I don't know if capitalism is sufficient to prevent situations like what we have today
even if there is a veneer of nationalism
I think I liked libertianism because i always had issues with authority figures. Teachers, bosses, whatever. I hated being told what to do if it was something I wasn't passionate about or disagreed with
I'm not super hardcore on this and I don't think it's worth creating division in the movement over, but I think it's worth looking into
I do believe that capitalism can contribute to the degradation of society. Some people are perfectly content to profit off the people that they should be caring about even if that profit made means harm to the society.
e.g. Big Pharma
I think that although a society should strive to make money, it should do so with the well being of its people in mind first.
I'm not blatantly anticapitalistic by the way, I'm just saying that I understand some criticisms of it.
Good luck making that work in america right now. We live in a continent sized shopping mall
I'm becoming more anti-capitalist over time but I mean I consider anyone who wants to create and preserve white homelands to be an ally
@Current Ronin I totally agree with you, we've been sold out and sold out so many times I don't even know who we're owned by anymore (I do tho)
Oh..we all know haha
It's totally black pilling but eventually you come to the realization that America has been a joke of a country since ww2
It's embarrassing
It's just cool that we have a network of like-minded people who care, I honestly was so glad to learn that there were others
@Current Ronin and I totally agree, we lost our identity after World War II. We weren't allowed to have it anymore.
Have you got to hang out irl yet?
@Current Ronin no I haven't, I actually just had my interview today, I'm still awaiting my second interview
Ohh for sure. Yeah man me and some people went and saw degenerate stand up comedy last night and got drinks. Super fun
Hopefully you'll have some people close by to kick it with
Oh that's awesome, yeah I can't wait for that man. I have literally Met 0 people IRL that hold these beliefs.
It's kind of alienating. Although I guess you never know, I've just never had a conversation with somebody in agreeance to this irl
Dude its like you've known them forever haha it's super weird but cool at the same time
That's great, I'm glad there's camaraderie. it's very important to have in general, but when it's for a purpose it's even better.
I lost a ton of normie friends cause it just kinda sucks hanging out with them after being red pilled
Like you feel like you've outgrown them
Not gonna lie it's a little depressing haha
If he's in Maryland he definitely has people close by
Maryland is pretty small
and I know for a fact we have members there
and in DC and Virginia
I can relate to you there, it's kind of hard to talk to people at work for more than a few sentences because I have a hard time connecting with them over Hollywood gossip and things that I know are unimportant or just uninteresting now
I'm only about an hour and 20 minutes from DC
And about an hour from Baltimore
Oh yeah there's gotta be guys around there
You'll be surprised how many people are getting married and having kids haha huge white pill
haha I've taken 5 hour trips to meet up with guys
it's worth it
but I wouldn't be surprised if you have people closer than DC
That's awesome, I'm not sure if we have a presence at the University of Delaware but I'm not too far away from there either
The ca people are lucky cause we have quite a few out here
Oh I bet with your population there are a lot
I wish I didn't work so often so I can cruise and hang out with the orange county people. Seems like they're always doing cool stuff
once I get a car I'm gonna be going to so much IE stuff
I think they were gonna do a meet up this weekend but it's been raining all crazy recently
My car's in the shop right now cause I got hit by somebody who didn't stop at a stop sign. But once I get that thing back I'll definitely be visiting folks
Aw gay
Yeah man get your ride fixed and go hang out for sure
Yeah dude it sucks. it just happened on Thursday. But I definitely will
I had the idea of putting fun light hearted stuff together. Like going to see stand up or see a band or something
Kinda break up the seriousness
Otherwise I just get depressed and miserable haha and one of the things that drew me to the alt right in the first place was the humor and fun
Definitely. That's the way to do it. Never lose the funny, humor breeds in truth.
Are you over 21?
That's what meme magic is. Its truth.
And the reason it's funny is because it always seems to work against our enemies who base their ideology in blindness.
Yeah I'm 23
Oh nice. Dude yeah the first time you have beers with red pilled people you're gonna be like omg this is so fun wow
I bet! It seems like a blast, I have this awesome German bar near my house but I doubt anyone lives close enough for us to use that as a spot. But it has the best imported German beer haha
Nice hell yeah
after youre totally vetted and legit maybe you can get people to come out
im not mad at german beer haha
I'm trying to schedule my 2nd interview for tomorrow or the next day because they're the only days I have off for a while lol
yeah dude get it done then do the pledge thing
Is the pledge thing the orientation?
you just listen while patrick explains the rules and everything to make sure you totally understand what the deal is
Cool
which is super important
The reason that I'm concerned with that though is I work from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. every day except Sundays. So I don't want them to have to make an exception for me but I work in a controlled environment where I'm not able to have my phone
oh lame
yeah with mine i just put my headphones on when i was on campus
I hope maybe they hold one on a Sunday one day
Sometimes I'm off on Saturday as well though so I'm sure we can make it work
It's a shame there isn't one tomorrow cause I would totally be there haha
youll figure it out
it took me like 3 weeks haha
literally something stupid would always come up
Yeah I'm sure it'll work out, ill just ask my coordinator once I have the interview with him. I'm sure he has one scheduled that'll line up with mine.
hell yeah dude welcome
as long as youre not a sperg youll be fine haha
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it dude, I'm excited to be here
And I am all about good Optics. The most important thing for us right now
yeah man. i miss the edgy days before charlottesville haha
it was really fun
there were some pretty spicy optics flying around. not so much in IE but in the movement as a whole
I'm sure it was, I wasn't even part of the movement at that time I was kind of trumpian alt light guy. But even then I thought what happened was completely avoidable, antifa should have not been able to gain access
As far as I'm concerned it wasn't an issue until they arrived. And I would say even the Normie on the right feels that way
did you like gavin?
even though hes cringe i still like him haha
without him i wouldnt have found richard spencer
Honestly not really, I always thought he was a bit obnoxious and I didn't see him as genuine. But I did watch his content on occasion.
and then later woes, red ice and so on
I really love Richard Spencers speeches.
I was in IE before Charlottesville. It was a different place.
oh yeah hes super obnoxious but i hate to say it...the guy makes me crack up sometimes haha
yeah man those college speeches spencer did were great
I think he is currently a frequent guest on a show called the heel turn
yeah its his show on mondays and wednesdays
apparently hes a jerk irl
