The earliest ancestor that I can directly trace though was a Union lieutenant from Conneticut.

Why do you side with the confederacy?

Well because my direct paternal line I believe has been here since about the first colony. And for at least four generations my father's line has been in Texas.

But I've got family from everywhere.

many southern states actually have a black majority population

And I side with the confederacy because they sought preservation above all else.

Louisiana was 80% black after the civil war

after the slavery was abolished, yankees migrante to the south to settle

"Carpetbaggers"

opportunists looking for cheap investment.

I've always favored Union but looking into what a lot of what happened before the war made me sympathize with the south more
