Interested to hear your takes lads

2018-03-17 04:19:44 UTC

howdy

2018-03-17 04:29:28 UTC

I tend to think of life as a crucible and God as a smith providing cleansing fire. Every single thing that happens happens for an innumerably greater reason that the human mind cannot begin to fathom. Somethings he does are simplistic, and some he does are almost extra dimensional in their reasoning. Everything has a purpose, a place, and a time. Inevitably every event which befalls man is to further purge undesirable aspects from our spirit and soul. Life, and subsequently, evil, is akin to slag, it must be purged and separated by fire.

There is an unbelievable amount of theology dedicated to this very question. This is simply my understanding of a portion of it.

@Polybius

Whomst wrote that @Thomas

2018-03-17 04:31:57 UTC

I like it

2018-03-17 04:32:21 UTC

Oh that was just me.

2018-03-17 04:32:47 UTC

But Iโ€™m fairly sure Thomas Aquinas puts it better than I can.

2018-03-17 04:32:54 UTC
2018-03-17 04:36:57 UTC

I hope nobody takes offense to anything I post from this book, I'm not posting as an endorsement or to be incendiary just genuinely interested.

2018-03-17 04:37:14 UTC

Oh I understand completely.

2018-03-17 04:37:37 UTC

But yea, @Thomas they showed the cosmological argument from Aquinas and it was very interesting

2018-03-17 04:37:49 UTC

I'd like to read that book Nick recommended on him

2018-03-17 04:37:54 UTC

Folks sometimes get defensive when I say that to be traditionally Catholic and traditionally American is a contrarian idea.

2018-03-17 04:38:00 UTC

An Even Shorter Summa

2018-03-17 04:38:54 UTC

At first glance I don't see why it would be

2018-03-17 04:39:38 UTC

Because to truly, and really be Catholic, is to regard all that isnโ€™t, all that goes against doctrine, as a heresy to be purged.

2018-03-17 04:39:44 UTC

And they arenโ€™t wrong in this.

2018-03-17 04:40:04 UTC

America allows and even promotes multiple heresies going all the way back to its founding.

2018-03-17 04:40:35 UTC

So, therefore to be an American traditionalist, is to be contrary to being a true Catholic traditionalist.

2018-03-17 04:42:05 UTC

That makes sense and is pretty much what I thought you meant by it

2018-03-17 04:42:33 UTC

I meant I didn't see why it would be a contrarian position

2018-03-17 04:43:34 UTC

Oh no, I originally meant that being the two things in tandem with each other is contrarian.

2018-03-17 04:46:03 UTC

Lol sorry I'm tired, I knew what you meant I just put it wrong I guess

2018-03-17 04:46:38 UTC

Understandable. No need for any apology.

2018-03-17 04:46:49 UTC

I meant I understood that the two ideas were at odds and didn't see why holding *that* idea would be contrarian

2018-03-25 17:56:03 UTC

That's all socrates does in Euthyphro. He uses irony and just questions Euthyphro without giving his own opinion.
