The guy i chill with has been trying and can understand the language, however there are certain regions where you can absolutely get by. For example the pomorskie tricities, Gdynia Gdansk Sopot, with Sopot being the tourist city and bloody expensive.

Warsaw you can get by, but generally most students live in either the old town of a given city or dorms, those that work go to old town
