Every planet/most satellites in space has been observed to be spherical yet the earth just isn't because why not

It should be spherical for about every reason, including how it would have been formed in the first place

atmospheric refraction is the deviation of light due to atmospheric conditions such as air density as a function of height. if you understand this, it is very understandable how chicago would be elevated at our perspective due to the light deviation
