NASA uses what's called the saros cycle to predict eclipses
1. foucault pendulums in museums are not proof of anything because they are electronic (the use magnets to keep the Bob swinging)
2. Alias effect with proper pendulums shows that it might not be the earth rotating because this effect would mean the earth rotates backwards during eclipses for some reason
