I just watched the whole video. These guys have no concept of a scientific exp. GPS as measurement, to measure in mm, just to measure 1.
So here is what you suppose to do dummies:
Get a waypoint, a beacon on a mountain close by. Take a laser measurement device , set it up flat, to a micron on the ice on one side. Calculate the height.
Then move to the other side. Setup you laser measurement device, and repeat the test.
Then use trig to calculate the difference.
