There are numerous pictures of the ocean from high up. It always looks totally flat with a proper camera. If there is curve that just means they used a gopro or other fisheye camera.
The technology of a fisheye lens is well known. They are great for a gopro as you see a wide range. With a normal lens you have to get far away for a family picture. Often impossible in any building.
