2018-01-10 19:07:07 UTC

Regardless of any possible improvements that may be introduced

2018-01-10 19:07:28 UTC

OR

2018-01-10 19:07:53 UTC

A group of people have a face while the government doesn't; if you know what I mean

2018-01-10 19:08:12 UTC

Stay caused it worked before or change cause it might be for the better

2018-01-10 19:08:12 UTC

Being breaking down any boundaries that are, regardless of their protection or importance and stability they may provide

2018-01-10 19:08:50 UTC

Everything is relevant and therefore everyone has equal power

2018-01-10 19:09:01 UTC

Those are the two polar opposites, right?

2018-01-10 19:09:25 UTC

yeah pretty much

2018-01-10 19:09:59 UTC

So where is the common ground in these two

2018-01-10 19:10:27 UTC

Assuming horse shoe theory

2018-01-10 19:11:12 UTC

preserving certain values that help benefit or don't harm while getting rid of values that don't benefit and may harm

2018-01-10 19:11:17 UTC

Wanting to exist and retain existence

2018-01-10 19:11:56 UTC

the problem is some values may seem harmful or inane but do more than that is apparent

2018-01-10 19:12:20 UTC

and some values can be taken too far and become abusive

2018-01-10 19:13:24 UTC

Well, there's also trying to change stuff without fully understanding what you're even trying to change. A perfect example of this is "the wage gap", wherein women make less money than men. It's easy to look at this and go "oh well that isn't right, we need to fix this."
The problem comes into play when no one bothers asking or looking into *why* this is the case.

2018-01-10 19:13:26 UTC

Still. Maybe cause it moved ftom change since you hate what it was before to,change cause it benefits me or cause it makes me feel good.

2018-01-10 19:14:25 UTC

Yeah that's mostly moral arbiting, jaden

2018-01-10 19:15:06 UTC

not critisizing anyone, trying to follow this conversation, but i really dont know what anyone is talking about. like i know what your saying but im not sure what it relates to, and looking up through the chat didint help me figure out

2018-01-10 19:15:09 UTC

You can make a group of people feel like they're doing what is morally good by supporting you. That's the democrats platform these days

2018-01-10 19:15:40 UTC

Probably what its always been for all I know

2018-01-10 19:15:48 UTC

It's the strong, supportive patriarchal figure and the protective, quixotic matriarchal figure

2018-01-10 19:15:49 UTC

I think it's just a general conversation about ideas, I'm not sure what the precise topic of discussion is. lol

2018-01-10 19:16:14 UTC

mostly discussing what consists of progressivism i guess

2018-01-10 19:16:16 UTC

You need both to be in some sort of balance

2018-01-10 19:16:32 UTC

mk

2018-01-10 19:17:08 UTC

yeah it's not "out with the old, in with the new" it's "out with the structurally unsound, in with the structurally sound/beneficial"

2018-01-10 19:17:45 UTC

a problem the current meme left struggle with

2018-01-10 19:17:50 UTC

depends on who's using the word progressive

2018-01-10 19:18:51 UTC

that follows its origenal context, where the term progressive developted during the monopoly and trust busting era of usa politics in the late 1800's

2018-01-10 19:18:55 UTC

political definitions are such a pain in the ass

2018-01-10 19:19:10 UTC

If you'd imagine the conservative and progressive as a male and female character trying to sustain their relationship/household but also their own dreams

2018-01-10 19:19:32 UTC

progressivism is more of a direction than a set idea. In 100 years what will be progressive will be different from now or 100 years before

2018-01-10 19:19:55 UTC

Same as conservative

2018-01-10 19:20:09 UTC

It's relevant to the structure of society

2018-01-10 19:20:25 UTC

Fundamentalists are like what came before that

2018-01-10 19:20:52 UTC

Going back to the absolute bedrock of the society

2018-01-10 19:21:04 UTC

i think conservitism can actually replace progressivism with the definition of "out with the less structurally sound/in with the more structurally sound" but from a different perspective "keep the more structurally sound/let go of the less structurally sound"

2018-01-10 19:21:14 UTC

This is why the exact word used is absolutely integral. People will see the word and have to know what the idea is with it or make assumptions about what it is.

2018-01-10 19:21:40 UTC

That's why I usually avoid the established terms

2018-01-10 19:22:10 UTC

Because of their connotations, which aren't always descriptive of the original meaning

2018-01-10 19:22:23 UTC

Yeah while progressivism is a moving word conservitism can be seen as a standing word if you look at them like that

2018-01-10 19:22:26 UTC

It also makes for much nicer conversation

2018-01-10 19:22:35 UTC

Conservatism is a stranding word

2018-01-10 19:23:00 UTC

Fundamentalist would be the standing word

2018-01-10 19:23:05 UTC

Also why I don't like the "left/right" divide. Makes it way too easy to discredit someone elses ideas simply because they use a word they identify with.

2018-01-10 19:23:24 UTC

There's also a different meaning here in Europe

2018-01-10 19:23:29 UTC

left/right

2018-01-10 19:23:36 UTC

Yeah, like being on the right or left is supposed to be an inherently bad thing? It makes no sense. lol

2018-01-10 19:23:47 UTC

From what I've heard other American pallerinos

2018-01-10 19:23:48 UTC

I heard my mom say something like "isn't he a republican though?" or some shit like that. Like why does it matter which letter he has next to his name if he has good ideas.

2018-01-10 19:24:08 UTC

The two party system was a dumb idea to reinforce, mang

2018-01-10 19:24:36 UTC

Right - more control to private sector

2018-01-10 19:24:52 UTC

Left - more control to governments

2018-01-10 19:25:00 UTC

In theory.

2018-01-10 19:25:15 UTC

In practice, they're both bought out by busniesses and monied interests, so it's moot.

2018-01-10 19:25:19 UTC

While the left around the Iraq war was completely against the government. These ideas shift

2018-01-10 19:25:20 UTC

Yeah

2018-01-10 19:25:25 UTC

That's the horseshoe theory

2018-01-10 19:25:33 UTC

They end up in the same place

2018-01-10 19:25:39 UTC

it's like if the horseshoe was made of mercury

2018-01-10 19:25:41 UTC

You need a constant flux

2018-01-10 19:25:51 UTC

You can't stay in the middle

2018-01-10 19:25:53 UTC

I thought the horseshoe theory was that the extremes of the right and left, in terms of ideology, is that they end up in the same place?

2018-01-10 19:26:03 UTC

Well, yeah

2018-01-10 19:26:05 UTC

Their extremes

2018-01-10 19:26:08 UTC

I was talking purely about money in politics.

2018-01-10 19:26:08 UTC

it's that they're fundamentally the same

2018-01-10 19:26:29 UTC

It's all nepotism

2018-01-10 19:26:40 UTC

Because of our lame social nature

2018-01-10 19:26:44 UTC

perceive it as you will

2018-01-10 19:26:59 UTC

There's a difference, though

2018-01-10 19:27:23 UTC

One comes from the production of goods/services

2018-01-10 19:27:48 UTC

The other comes from the escalation of power of those manufacturers

2018-01-10 19:27:48 UTC

I think arguing definitions is a good way to miss the point though

2018-01-10 19:28:25 UTC

It's all cyclical, because products and ideas go obsolete

2018-01-10 19:29:07 UTC

Yeah, good point. It's a superficial issue at best

2018-01-10 19:31:07 UTC

Just avoid using the established and dusty/stagnant political monikers and explain your fundamental issues like you would to a four year old

2018-01-10 19:31:20 UTC

Minus the somewhat denigrating tone of voice

2018-01-10 19:31:34 UTC

People don't seem to appreciate that

2018-01-10 19:31:47 UTC

yeah pretty much lol. Just saying "oh I'm a libertarian" leaves a lot of room for interpretation. Just say what you believe in pertaining to the relevant issue

2018-01-10 19:32:22 UTC

Remember Trump's run in the 2000s?

2018-01-10 19:33:34 UTC

nope

2018-01-10 19:34:25 UTC

He withdrew from the race

2018-01-10 19:34:41 UTC

Because of infighting of his party "The Reform Party"

2018-01-10 19:35:41 UTC

He expressed his concerns by referring to David Duke, Pat Buchanan, and Lenora Fulani as a Klansman, a Neo-Nazi, and a Communist, respectively.

2018-01-10 19:36:25 UTC

"Drrumff **never** even disavowed David Duke! What a racist."

2018-01-10 19:37:19 UTC

Lol he mentored HRC

2018-01-10 19:37:48 UTC

The human rights commission?

2018-01-10 19:40:56 UTC

I'm a europoor, please be patient

2018-01-10 19:41:01 UTC

Hillary rodham clinton

2018-01-10 19:41:07 UTC

David duke

2018-01-10 19:41:14 UTC

OH, right

2018-01-10 19:41:40 UTC

Thwres a meme of him kissing her, and a pic next to it of him with his klans garb

2018-01-10 19:41:59 UTC

It's alright, though.

2018-01-10 19:42:10 UTC

Hillary puts hot sauce on **everything**

2018-01-10 19:42:25 UTC

And always carries some in her handbag.

2018-01-10 19:43:33 UTC

Well. I dont even understand what she meant to convey with that.

2018-01-10 19:44:12 UTC

I,mean at least Trump enjoys things like we all want to, like lol, a burger in japan that was amazing actually.

2018-01-10 19:44:18 UTC

something about like mexicans eat spicy food or whatever lol

2018-01-10 19:44:20 UTC

it was so weird
