2018-09-14 14:34:19 UTC

One reason I heard was that twitter was a :honeypot: op for terrorists.

2018-09-14 14:34:58 UTC

But if that were the case, why are only specific users being banned? Or why only certain kinds of hate are bannable

2018-09-14 14:41:50 UTC

the new apple watch sucks lol

2018-09-14 14:41:59 UTC

2018-09-14 14:42:18 UTC

it will be buggy af

2018-09-14 14:47:35 UTC

Why do I want a corporation monitoring my heartbeat?

2018-09-14 14:51:49 UTC

Oh boy, can't watch the video because I'm on data but the articles make it sound like another "You don't understand what it's like to have someone be racist towards you, evil whitey"

2018-09-14 15:34:49 UTC

@GingaBomber I don't think it is all political bias within the company. You have share holders, you've got phone calls officials. The Independent is half owned by the Saudis. You can't trust a word it says about terrorism. Same with twitter. Ann has been calling out the government, police and Islam about these child rape gangs for months now. When South Yorkshire police put out that 'report non-crimes' tweet she flipped her lid.
There's more going on here than just a bunch of self righteous cunts sitting with their finger on the ban button.

2018-09-14 15:35:33 UTC

Pretty much, Ive heard that honeypot excuse for a while

2018-09-14 15:35:44 UTC

Which I doubt for the reasons you provided.

2018-09-14 15:36:35 UTC

If they... really were trying to stop terrorists, does it make sense to punish shit like speech when theres jihadists preaching death on twitter openly.

2018-09-14 15:39:16 UTC

They are not intrested in stopping terrorisim at all. Just keep enough of a lid on it so the the natives don't revolt. Look at now much power they have managed to grab, how many freedoms we have given up in the name of safety.

2018-09-14 15:42:33 UTC

Im not disagreeing, I just find the honeypot excuse just... full of holes

2018-09-14 15:43:00 UTC

I mean back then when you never heard of conservatives being censored on twitter or FB.

2018-09-14 15:43:08 UTC

Or wernt aware of it.

2018-09-14 15:43:22 UTC

And id say, because they never felt the need to

2018-09-14 15:47:03 UTC

Well depending on the target the honeypot argument could still hold. You have to gather data before you use it. Never forget the Great Candid Shilling

2018-09-14 15:47:35 UTC

Yeah.... It was alot more believable then

2018-09-14 15:47:42 UTC

Honeypots are meant to ***catch*** people, and nobody is getting caught. They're still operating unimpeded.

2018-09-14 15:47:57 UTC

But if it were a honeypot, then why leave those up? Theres also neo nazi groups still active on FB

2018-09-14 15:48:03 UTC

Plenty of raping, stabbing, shooting, killing, etc.

2018-09-14 15:48:19 UTC

Algorithms are honestly still shitter tier

2018-09-14 15:48:24 UTC

Is the main problem

2018-09-14 15:48:52 UTC

I think these companies are actually way less competent than people seem to want to imply

2018-09-14 15:49:02 UTC

Well it dosent help that they have a very.... one sided view of whats acceptable

2018-09-14 15:49:10 UTC

Like who watches the watchman

2018-09-14 15:49:23 UTC

I had this argument with someone, he said that have an AI in charge of everything

2018-09-14 15:49:27 UTC

But who codes the thing?

2018-09-14 15:49:35 UTC

Well and they seem primarily concerned with people who have large viewerships

2018-09-14 15:49:42 UTC

How do we know the AI isnt just the guy's will made manifest?

2018-09-14 15:50:02 UTC

To the point where a lot of smalltime users are not punished for abusive behavior

2018-09-14 15:50:18 UTC

Which may also be why extremist groups fly under the radar

2018-09-14 15:53:15 UTC

So the implication being that the threshold of whats considered acceptable is higher the smaller your community is?

2018-09-14 15:57:19 UTC

Which if you are free speech absolutist, you either punish everyone, or no one

2018-09-14 15:57:33 UTC

Also,m they could rely on user reports like they do..

2018-09-14 15:57:59 UTC

But theres also the bias there. People get banned for reposting anti white comments with white replaces.

2018-09-14 16:06:19 UTC

They aren't absolutists though. This should be clear by now

2018-09-14 16:10:04 UTC

There should be no doubt that the people in control of public discourse are anything but that

2018-09-14 16:10:55 UTC

I mean the reason why people belive in anonymity is because theres nothing to gurantee that what happens online wont carry over to real life.

2018-09-14 19:37:23 UTC

For all the Canadians: Mad Max just announced the Canadian version of the Libertarian party http://www.peoplespartyofcanada.ca

2018-09-14 19:39:08 UTC

You mean, as opposed to the Canadian Libertarian Party?

2018-09-14 19:44:35 UTC

Seems like more of an actual right-wing party instead of the four or five flavors of socialism the Canadians usually have to choose from

2018-09-14 19:44:56 UTC

Social democracy*

2018-09-14 19:45:19 UTC

And yeah, dude wants to add private medical coverage and help deregulate the failing govt funded system

2018-09-14 19:45:41 UTC

No mention of self defense laws that I could find though, which is a huge issue legally

2018-09-14 20:54:08 UTC

I'm not a fan of the name because it sounds communist

2018-09-14 20:54:20 UTC

But I agree with his platform

2018-09-14 20:54:38 UTC

I think he could do well in the prairies and QC

2018-09-14 20:57:36 UTC

Canada has "No right of self defense" as it's default legal foundation doesn't it?

2018-09-14 20:58:37 UTC

Basically

2018-09-14 20:58:48 UTC

It's actually the worst part

2018-09-14 21:04:58 UTC

I didn't know Canada actually had a libertarian party lmao

2018-09-14 21:07:15 UTC

They kicked out Lauren Southern, so that tells you how useful they are.

2018-09-14 21:25:06 UTC

Tbh I think the "people's" branding is brilliant

2018-09-14 21:36:21 UTC

How so?

2018-09-14 21:36:56 UTC

"People's" deflects from the fact that they are not socialist

New York Times just started blocking Archive.is . Same time that they dropped that fake news curtains story.

2018-09-15 00:41:48 UTC

Any archive you make comes up blank

2018-09-15 00:48:08 UTC

2018-09-15 14:21:58 UTC

Wait what the hell?

2018-09-15 14:22:14 UTC

They should make it a law that everyone should speak English in the US

2018-09-15 14:24:51 UTC

It would never pass. A generation ago maybe. Today? No chance.

2018-09-15 14:26:23 UTC

I mean I get that part, theres too many non english speakers

2018-09-15 14:26:39 UTC

What do you do to the people who didnt bother picking up the language or people who dont have the time to do so?

2018-09-15 14:26:51 UTC

Deport them.

2018-09-15 14:27:03 UTC

Yeah, but theres also the immensely stupid

2018-09-15 14:27:12 UTC

You heard of that kid who only knew 3 words?

2018-09-15 14:27:16 UTC

2018-09-15 14:27:29 UTC

2018-09-15 14:27:39 UTC

2018-09-15 14:49:41 UTC

How do they expect to be able to function in society if they can't speak English?

2018-09-15 14:51:50 UTC

Think of it this way

2018-09-15 14:51:52 UTC

whats easier?

2018-09-15 14:51:58 UTC

learning a language

2018-09-15 14:52:12 UTC

Or count on pathological altruism to enable your laziness?

2018-09-15 14:58:19 UTC

Learning a language may be hard but it will make your life easier in the long run

2018-09-15 15:04:34 UTC

Theres the problem

2018-09-15 15:04:39 UTC

These people dont think in the long run

2018-09-15 15:05:03 UTC

They are counting on these pathological altrusits to continue tolerating and even encouraging their behaviour

2018-09-15 15:05:15 UTC

"Why should I adapt to you, you racist!"

2018-09-15 16:05:22 UTC

WHAT

2018-09-15 16:07:59 UTC

we need to equip all white people with special gloves that prevent them from touching the tips of their thumb and index finger while extending the rest of their fingers.

2018-09-15 16:22:15 UTC

How bout they do that to the black power gesture?

2018-09-15 16:22:29 UTC

These shit for brains also think drinking whole milk is white supremacy

2018-09-15 16:35:46 UTC

Near the end of that Taco Bell video, the cashier flashes the okay sign while saying, "Tengo tres ..."

2018-09-15 16:37:25 UTC

Maybe there are three other customers behind the one she's talking to or something, but I thought it was kinda funny, b/c in some Spanish-speaking countries that hand signal is equivalent to giving someone the bird.

2018-09-15 18:18:37 UTC

lol

2018-09-15 18:19:13 UTC

year 2000

2018-09-15 19:53:23 UTC

I do have to question why the hell that employee thought it was a great Idea refuse service to a customer for not speaking Spanish, these companies fire people for pettier things than this. You could go into a McDonalds speaking pig latin & they'd ask you to point at the menu until they got you full order.

2018-09-15 20:15:47 UTC

Using machine translation on your phone should be sufficient for ordering from Taco Bell

2018-09-15 22:30:08 UTC

look on the bright side: she didn't rape anybody. i count that as a win.

2018-09-15 22:44:12 UTC

why are there "morality" quizzes to start with?

2018-09-15 23:07:49 UTC

it looks like it's a quiz to judge where exactly your morality is

2018-09-15 23:08:01 UTC

similar to a political test

2018-09-15 23:10:59 UTC

it's a valid question as to why it was part of a grade 10 curriculum.

2018-09-15 23:11:54 UTC

but this isn't something that really deserves a forced resignation or even a news article.

2018-09-15 23:12:26 UTC

i mean these kids have probably sat through lectures about ass sex

2018-09-15 23:12:33 UTC

it being part of an english class is certainly an eyebrow raiser

2018-09-15 23:12:34 UTC

they aren't delicate flowers.

2018-09-15 23:13:09 UTC

but i think a test like this would be good in certain subjects

2018-09-15 23:13:35 UTC

i think people saw "school teacher" + "morality quiz" and REEEE'd

2018-09-15 23:25:31 UTC

Why is a school curious about my morality? Different religions have different moral codes, different cultures have different moral codes. So what would the school be teaching that this is relevant too?

2018-09-15 23:27:33 UTC

it definitely doesn't belong in an english class

2018-09-15 23:27:58 UTC

but i could see it being a perfectly acceptable part of a political science class or something

2018-09-15 23:37:03 UTC

Because you need to think like the teachers think

2018-09-15 23:37:22 UTC

so they know which kids they need to assign extra brainwashing to

2018-09-15 23:37:56 UTC

if it's being graded as if there are right and wrong answers or right and wrong final results, then i'm 1000% down for this teacher being unable to teach ever again

2018-09-15 23:38:05 UTC

but the article doesn't say anything like that

2018-09-15 23:40:15 UTC

Id just mark everything as middle and turn it in

2018-09-15 23:43:18 UTC

i think a test like this is a good way to show that there is nuance and the world isn't black and white

2018-09-15 23:43:38 UTC

if it's just presented as it is

2018-09-15 23:43:54 UTC

again, if it's graded, that's a huge problem

2018-09-15 23:46:35 UTC

unless it was graded based on shit like, refused to participate, skipped every question, etc

2018-09-15 23:46:48 UTC

with max points just being "actually sat and thought about the questions"

2018-09-15 23:47:20 UTC

considering that getting the students to think about the questions is the only acceptable goal that this test could have

2018-09-16 18:23:19 UTC

The halloween 'razorblade in apples'/'poisoned candy' story is just an urban legend, but in Australia: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-09-16/contaminated-strawberries-in-punnet-bought-in-adelaide-hills/10253528

2018-09-16 18:23:54 UTC

```This latest incident comes after several reports of strawberries contaminated by pins and needles up and down the east coast of Australia.
Before this case in South Australia, six brands of strawberries โ€” Donnybrook Berries, Love Berry, Delightful Strawberries, Oasis brands, Berry Obsession and Berry Licious โ€” had been affected.
"Because these closed forums [Facebook Groups] can be given a โ€œsecretโ€ setting, they can be hidden away from everyone but their members. This locks out the police, intelligence services and charities that could otherwise engage with the groups and correct disinformation. This could be particularly crucial with groups where parents are told not to vaccinate their children against diseases."
"Thatโ€™s why I am introducing a bill in parliament which will do just that. By establishing legal accountability for whatโ€™s published in large online forums, I believe we can force those who run these echo chambers to stamp out the evil that is currently so prominent. Social media can be a fantastic way of bringing people together โ€“ which is precisely why we need to prevent it being hijacked by those who instead wish to divide."
The poison doesn't have this long of a shelf life. If this is the connected then it's either the Russians throwing the scent off, someone working at the chemistry lab near by is fucking around (which I highly doubt coz if it had come from there in the first place then it would be on lock down while we blame the Russians.
2018-09-16 20:19:39 UTC
@pratel This woman is mad. I'm not going to read the guardian but she also says something about making Mods of these forum legally response for what is said in them.
2018-09-16 20:21:19 UTC
Agreed. I hear it passed first reading.
I actually found the article in a reason article. They seem to think that the real goal here might be to ban secret groups. Mark Warner (D-VA-US Senate) in the US had a similar line of thinking--and his was far scarier and far more wide-reaching
2018-09-16 20:32:50 UTC
2018-09-16 20:33:02 UTC
I think I remember hearing about that. This should be an easy one to beat. Victims of domestic violence need these groups. Play the woman card.
2018-09-16 20:33:20 UTC
Cheeres I'll give that a read.
2018-09-16 20:35:29 UTC
They'll just make an exception saying only 'hate' groups are banned.
2018-09-16 20:35:52 UTC
'hate' being whatever policy they don't like, such as being anti-migrant
2018-09-16 20:36:00 UTC
That's where the making mods liable comes from. There's probably an easy out she would have in mind in that case.
My guess is that it looks something like NGOs or companies can operate private forums and are subject to legal scrutiny and are required to turn over logs to the police if requested.
2018-09-16 20:37:43 UTC
@Atkins that's too coarse and already how it works at the same time. They wouldn't just ban "hate" groups--that's too obvious. They'll just vigorously prosecute people under the laws that already exist in Britian.
2018-09-16 20:38:43 UTC
2018-09-16 20:42:13 UTC
The best way IMO to help the minimum wage thing in the US is what we do in AU, if someone doesn't provide a valid Tax number then they get taxed 50% of their wage, which pays for things like healthcare and stuff. It basically stops migrants working for less and not contributing to the country
2018-09-16 20:44:15 UTC
Whatever the wage is, doesn't matter, one item of products will always be worth a percentage of a different item, so increasingly wages can only ever increase cost of living. The key is to circulate money in a way that it benefits locals and keeps the money inside the country
2018-09-17 16:35:47 UTC
@zero_consequences the plural of _Hail Mary_ is _Hails Mary_
2018-09-17 16:42:18 UTC
@Atkins How did you find this juicy morsel, is this original research?
2018-09-17 16:47:49 UTC
nah i saw it on a gun website
"โ€œI think itโ€™s more and more important to at least clarify what our own bias leans towards, and just express itโ€ฆ Iโ€™d rather know what someone biases to rather than try to interpret through their actions,โ€ Dorsey told Rosen."
Really Jack? Then maybe you should stop silencong people then. Perhaps then they might be open about their bias and you wouldn't need to just randomly call people alt right because you think they are.
2018-09-17 18:05:58 UTC
Jacob Rees-Mogg is supporting it?
2018-09-17 18:05:59 UTC
what?
2018-09-17 18:08:15 UTC
Is the bill assigned any ID?
2018-09-17 18:08:26 UTC
I really want to see if he actually supports it
2018-09-17 18:08:40 UTC
Everything else I search for is just Lucy's commentary regurgitated
2018-09-17 18:24:16 UTC
Sargon said JRM was supporting it
2018-09-17 18:31:43 UTC
While I'd normally use this opportunity to shit on liberalistism
2018-09-17 18:31:53 UTC
I am curious why he would support it
2018-09-17 19:27:46 UTC
look at those dindus
2018-09-17 19:36:36 UTC
ya all still taking dick picks ah?
2018-09-17 19:36:49 UTC
employees geting bribes to sell your data left and right
2018-09-17 19:36:55 UTC
not only that same companies sell your data
2018-09-17 19:37:04 UTC
:/
2018-09-17 20:36:27 UTC
Kind of a 'Six degrees of Kevin Bacon' connection, but it seems legit.
Ah, Left wing Kiddies protesting for bullshit
2018-09-17 21:53:26 UTC
If people weren't so anti nuclear the coal thing wouldn't have been an issue
2018-09-17 22:03:23 UTC
Problem is: There is only one good way to make electrical power and that is really expensive and intrusive.
2018-09-17 22:03:31 UTC
You in the US have dozen of those
2018-09-17 22:03:52 UTC
And that is water power
2018-09-17 22:04:35 UTC
I'm not American. My province runs primarily on Hydroelectric though yeah. However nuclear power was doing well as far as I could tell
2018-09-17 22:04:50 UTC
Then you spent billions shutting that shit down only to return to coal
2018-09-17 22:05:00 UTC
No, its disadvantages are so severe that it shouldn't be anoption
2018-09-17 22:05:15 UTC
The radioactivity is a Problem that isn't solved.
2018-09-17 22:05:56 UTC
so basically the Taxpayer pays for the disposal of the radioactive waste.
2018-09-17 22:06:02 UTC
Sorry, but the only two places it's been an issue were a result of lazy engineering and no safety features
2018-09-17 22:06:20 UTC
And I heard storys from my Teacher who was a Fan of Nuclear Power - until he went to a Nuclear Power Plant..
2018-09-17 22:06:40 UTC
Meanwhile people are fucking your air quality and blowing up mountains for coal lol
2018-09-17 22:07:21 UTC
Yeah, but the only viable solution is to build a Dam and Water Plants
2018-09-17 22:07:57 UTC
That is the only good solution to creating power
2018-09-17 22:08:03 UTC
The issue is that's only viable in certain areas
2018-09-17 22:08:40 UTC
Geothermal is also good when it can be utilized but again that's not everywhere
2018-09-17 22:09:01 UTC
Yes, that's the other solution.
2018-09-17 22:09:11 UTC
But that's the only good things we have....
2018-09-17 22:09:25 UTC
everything else is shit or worse
2018-09-17 22:28:00 UTC
ya all goign to spend billions shuting coal to go back to nuclear soon
2018-09-17 22:28:26 UTC
never to realise you are doing the biding for the ones behind coal and nuclear energy
2018-09-17 22:28:50 UTC
clearing the market for other to come and fill it
2018-09-17 22:33:05 UTC
@Stefan Payne look up the 'integral fast reactor' and fast breeder reactors in general. solving the waste problem is mostly a political issue, not a science or engineering issue.
2018-09-17 22:34:21 UTC
tl;dr reactor designs exist that burn the fuel more completely resulting in far less waste by mass, and far, far less dangerous or long lasting waste.
2018-09-17 22:34:23 UTC
Fast Breeders like the Tschernobyl one?
2018-09-17 22:36:42 UTC
I think comparing a RBMK to a modern western designed reactor is kind of disingenuous.
