If it isn't listening to your voice and analyzing it for patterns how would it know when you said "Alexa"
Mormons came to my door one day to reassure me that the world wouldn't be destroyed during the end times.
That people would survive living the in earth.
@Atkins even better, its SO much worse than that
Yeah I know
As for privacy with Alexa, you can bring up the data leaks.
yeah it was a fun convo with my mom
Or stuff like the Stasi. They'd know about that.
I was just trying to get my foot in the door to explaining the problems with these devices though.
I listened to their whole thing, twice. Then they asked me if it would be better if they didn't come back.
shes an older lass now
Or make analogies like people reading your mail.
Or HAL from 2001.
They don't get it man
Back when Trump was calling MS-13 animals
These are people who think dogs123 is a good password
I first asked my mom "Did you hear anything about trump today?"
"Yes"
or tell your parents "do you really want it listening to you having sex or talking about your white supremacist ideas?"
"About how he called people animals?"
that'll get em
"Yes."
Then they wonder why they keep having weird charges on their credit card.
"Did you hear about WHO he called animals"
"Mexicans."
"No. MS-13"
"What?"
"Mara Salvatrucha. It's a gang."
I had this whole rundown with her about how she learns the fake version of any story.
great gang
just the best
But it's no match for the amnesia.
@Atkins, well in that case, you can slip a charge onto the card (spend $0.25 or something trivial) and show them what you did it. They'll get the message.
She still hates Trump.
Despite.. me being able to uncover the lie of anything she's heard.
She's just too convinced of her own version.
THAT'S A BOOMER.
just say "Alexa, buy 30 big black dildos"
yeah, that's the mainstream news version.
how old is your mom?
Boomers are hopeless to speak to like you could speak to someone your own age.
Old dogs do not learn new tricks.
And stop asking me ages.
what?
why?
Because I won't answer you.
@pratel they've had to cancel multiple cards. They don't get computer security at all because they can't see beyond their comfortable small town life. The world outside may as well be Rand McNally to them.
fair enough
I'm in hell
schwing
Completely different world experiences making it impossible to communicate at all. Like talking to aliens.
Coo.l Has it frozen over yet?
I wish
Found me a knife
Trying to explain algorithmic censorship to a boomer? Impossible.
This is still better than the UK
remember, up the stream not across the river
It sounds like you just don't like that your parents dont value the same stuff you do
or give a shit about it
well yeah?
its a position of relative convenience
the conversation was about explaining culture war problems to boomers to get their political support
im aware of what it was
i'm trying to take the position that it's really hard.
Yeah parents are people too
And they're vulnerable to "Got mine fuck you"
Like social security for example.
explaining culture war problems to MOST people is nearly impossible
because they generally don't have the same experience and there's no common basis upon which to explain the problem.
because why should they give a fuck
Parents know that you won't be getting social security.
they should give a fuck because we're about to abandon innocent until proven guilt in a court of law
But they see this lack of freakout and go "Well. It'll probably work itself out"
But they haven't worked out how.
current parent's, myself included, know WERE not getting social security
And neither have we.
No one has.
What the hell do we actually do when people can't retire anymore?
?
what?
is that serious?
Social security seemed like a curse more than a boon to me, for the most part
I wasn't reading your fucking messages just because you cut into the middle of my sentences.
Stop assuming I'm replying to you.
im not assuming you are faggot
I can see the purpose
And there are cases where it's absolutely necessary
im asking you a question
learn what that looks like
But it seems to inspire laziness
And give people a reason to not get employed
Social security becomes necessary when jobs don't pay enough to put savings away.
Welfare is cannibalism.
Because just dissolving social security seems to be out of the question.
Would jobs pay that bad if the social security system was non existent?
Exactly.
That's a non-option.
So what do we have left.
Oh, I am not advocating for that btw
That's just stupid
you should
disolve it
You cant
>you can't
yes
you can
That would kill millions.
Too many are dependent on it
no it wouldn't
its not a just immediate cut
Yes it would.
It is dissolving gradually as is.
2034 it goes insolvent.
meaning the gov is going to pay it with debt
Applying weaker selection pressures on the weak and stronger selection pressures on the strong leads to more inequality, not less.
which is horrific
Oh boy, that sounds grand.
so the only remaining option is to???
oh right
start winding it down
If the rich were playing fair, this wouldn't be an issue.
lol
ok
But forcing them to play fair, is socialism.
So the rich just get to bounce every time.
Our kids are going to be suffering our debt. Why is it that noone is talking about the kids?
yes they will
if I have my way I will
suffer it i mean
Won't somebody think of the children
Me too. I wish i could
This is the only time where 'please think of the children' is apt.
You kicked the can down the road.
Now it's theirs.
Keynesianism is temporal wealth redistribution.
at some point people have to accept we need to wind social security down
2034 is that point.
meaning that the current gen is going to pay into a system that has to be legitimately canceled
People have already been figuring it out.
not insolvent
canceled
Tell more people to go to trade school
Investing in 401K's and stuff.
otherwise the govt will keep pumping money into it with debt
and we spiral out of control
Trade school isn't an across-the-board solution.
cut 25%
Its like were teenagers with credit cards. Not realizing we have to pay it back someday
Those jobs are going to be full eventually.
Alot of millennials, from what I can tell, want to tap into it early in the form of stuff like medicare for all.
Obviously, this won't work.
its pretty fucking universal all things considered
medicare/medicaid will need to get ditched probably too
at least to some degree
But Social security, Medicaid and Medicare are the core costs right now.
And there's no real avoiding that fact.
>he has passed out from drinking, but i never saw him passed out
<a:liverdeath:414932787779469312>
It will get dropped all at once when things turn bad.
take down the parallel rapist kavanaugh @Zuihou
The libertarians and left like to focus on defense spending, but it's relatively small compared to Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare.
And all the dependent people will be worse off for it
And most of the defense budget is actually pensions.
So more social security, so to speak.
you got Charlemagne tha Rap God and Kavanaugh tha Rape God
@pratel can verify
When social security actually drops, there's going to be a massive economic shock that we may not recover from.
It was brought up during the presidential debates.
Brett is pretty clearly innocent.
And I was surprised.
@oprahsminge No, Kavanaugh is a closet satanist who summons demons. Not a "rape god."
Because we almost never fucking talk about this.
Rape satan?
It's a giant shadow in our future.
The only hope (and it isn't much of one) is a freeze on entitlement spending and an economic boom that lasts 10+ years.
So there are two massive organized lobbies in American politics.
I believe military pension is necessary
The largest is the AARP.
The 2nd is the NRA.
Imagine if your caravan crosses into a desert and there's a giant shadow hanging over the rest of your path.
And no one is bringing up what the fuck that thing is.
A ton of ex service tend to not get jobs
@Abel I'd agree with the idea of pensions being somewhat necessary
The AARP slaughters anyone who touches social security or medicare.
but tbh some of the payouts are fucking crazy
Boomers will admit it's a ponzi scheme.
The military is heavily, and possibly over-compensated, to be honest.
You're looking at serving maybe a decade and collecting 30k for the next 40-50 years.
But it's their turn because they paid into it. And they'll be damned if they're left holding the bag.
and in the same breath they'll say "don't cut it because I paid into it! It's my money!"
"But.. That's what happens to us after you."
i dunno iif im gonna go as far as you @pratel
That adds up when you track how many people serve and then get pretty high paying jobs afterwards.
Well, here my dad gets a reduction in petrol prizes, free healthcare, and even scholarships for his family
And he only served for three deacades
For military?
Yep, Air force
3 decades makes sense for a nice pension.
yeah it makes sense
That's basically a career.
Basically
He joined when he was 17 lol
It's the guys who never get past the low levels but collect pensions for a lifetime that make you scratch your head.
And alot of those guys leave at 30 and take 6 figure jobs in private industry.
Oh I should mention
Can those guys get jobs elsewhere?
Giving your kids ritalin means they can probably never hold office.
"Why?"
Because it means they can never serve in the military.
"--Huh?"
@pratel who actually stays in the low levels and gets a pension?
You'll be running against people who have served in the military.
They win and you don't, in most circumstances.
You Americans should medicate children less
@oprahsminge I'm not sure. But I've heard people talk about it.
that's seeming to become a trend @Abel
Here we tell them to grow the fuck up
the reduction of it
I'm not 100% familiar with military compensation to be honest.
Parents get bamboozled.
They didn't know what ritalin really was.
It came highly recommended
But I know you can get a surprisingly solid pension for surprisingly little time served.
And people seemed to be experts.
@pratel iirc in the USMC, if you were at a certain rank after a certain number of years still, they just boot you
My parents weren't stupid, they just trusted professionals.
@oprahsminge good to know.
Do they still get paid though?
They assumed other people were as honorable about their jobs, as they were with their own.
like if I had stayed in and only been a corporal at year 8 id have gotten booted out
FUCK NO
That was the mistake.
you need 20 minimum to get a pension
That would make sense.
If that's the threshold, it's fairly reasonable.
Can you take a shortcut if you go through a service academy or something?
its not that its unreasonable or reasonable. It's just the way that the pay scales scale upward so dramatically
The whole idea of pensions, and being able to dangle the whole of them, makes me sick.
Well they're basically dead at this point.
and they pay out at high as fuck percentages of your paygrade
Only the government offers them.
@pratel what you mean take a shortcut through a service academy?
If it's something you're promised, something that keeps you and your family ALIVE, you cannot just hold it over people.
like pick up rank out of the gate?
@oprahsminge that would make sense. I think alot of the people I've heard of doing this were doctors and educated people who were able to count their years in education towards their service.
Yeah, basically.
oh
I mean I was enlisted
