Basically, my plan is to run the server like Soviet russia

2018-07-18 06:37:35 UTC

One thing I was considering was trying to think of a way to ensure a balanced look at these things.

My problem was that I could never figure out how you would prevent false flags and concern trolling.

2018-07-18 06:37:50 UTC

There won't be no trolls or flags

2018-07-18 06:38:00 UTC

There will be flags, ok

2018-07-18 06:38:11 UTC

But I'll try and keep it human

2018-07-18 06:38:34 UTC

False flags are only a problem when the system is automated

2018-07-18 06:38:58 UTC

Like on youtube

2018-07-18 06:39:48 UTC

nonono, false flag is a term for pretending to be an opponent to disrupt them or create bad press

(see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_flag)

concern trolling is pretending to be a member of a group online to improve identification with people you're looking to persuade (see; https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=concern%20troll)

2018-07-18 06:40:26 UTC

Oooh

2018-07-18 06:40:34 UTC

Essentially, it's hard to trust people to be honest about their own identifications, so to speak, so it's hard to ensure balance.

2018-07-18 06:41:02 UTC

Hmmm

2018-07-18 06:41:07 UTC

If you know people personally or it's the same people attaching a common identifier, this isn't as much a problem.

2018-07-18 06:41:32 UTC

Well, the I know like two writers on quora I can trust

2018-07-18 06:41:55 UTC

Ones a psychopath....And the other is one f the founders of the Alt right lol

2018-07-18 06:42:14 UTC

I talk to them regularly

2018-07-18 06:42:48 UTC

Maybe I'll try to put an application out on Twitter or Facebook

2018-07-18 06:42:57 UTC

Maybe people write articles

2018-07-18 06:43:02 UTC

and I read them

2018-07-18 06:43:07 UTC

Keep them around for a while

2018-07-18 06:43:12 UTC

@ExceptionalFeather I can't tell you not to use wikipedia, and it's got some use.

But do be aware of it's limitations and don't just assume what you read is necessarily accurate. Particularly if names or something seem to start flying or the people who are discussed in an article protest.

2018-07-18 06:43:27 UTC

But yeah these are possible issues

2018-07-18 06:43:32 UTC

It's ultimately better to do your own extensive research on politics in many cases and balance sources.

2018-07-18 06:43:40 UTC

I think I should start with the basics first

2018-07-18 06:43:49 UTC

Design the site

2018-07-18 06:43:59 UTC

lol. @Deleted User you've got odd friends.

2018-07-18 06:44:06 UTC

But if it seems to work.

2018-07-18 06:44:12 UTC

Hey, they're interesting people

2018-07-18 06:44:24 UTC

The psychopath is a conservative

2018-07-18 06:44:26 UTC

@pratel I don't assume any source is outright accurate

2018-07-18 06:44:39 UTC

It's always more fun to have interesting friends than normal friends. I cannot lie.

2018-07-18 06:44:50 UTC

And the other guy is Frank Smytt

2018-07-18 06:45:18 UTC

@pratel I just think it gets underused because people think that it is mostly inaccurate

2018-07-18 06:45:22 UTC

He's one of the original members of the alt right, before the neo Nazis and white nationalists took over

2018-07-18 06:46:04 UTC

He's a black guy btw

2018-07-18 06:46:09 UTC

We were discussing alt-lite earlier

2018-07-18 06:46:17 UTC

In my experience, Wikipedia is heavily overused. It's too easy to use and puts so much at the top that people don't read past it that much. Plus Google and Bing put it right at the top in a special box.

2018-07-18 06:46:22 UTC

Alt lite seems to be a prejorative

2018-07-18 06:46:39 UTC

it may have been used that way just like liberal or conservative

2018-07-18 06:46:46 UTC

"I want to tell people this person is alt right, but I can't, so...."

2018-07-18 06:46:52 UTC

From what I understand Alt-lite is an attempt to rebrand after Charlottesville.

2018-07-18 06:47:03 UTC

some accept it to be alt-right minus the identity politics

2018-07-18 06:47:07 UTC

On tumblr alt lite is a nazi dogwhistle

2018-07-18 06:47:15 UTC

So there's that

2018-07-18 06:47:21 UTC

On tumblr everything's a Nazi dogwhistle.

2018-07-18 06:47:25 UTC

It's a prejorative

2018-07-18 06:47:42 UTC

You guys know contrapoints, right?

2018-07-18 06:47:54 UTC

The tranny youtuber?

2018-07-18 06:48:06 UTC

She made a video about Nazi dogwhistles

2018-07-18 06:48:14 UTC

And every single one applies to her

2018-07-18 06:48:21 UTC

It's hilarious

2018-07-18 06:48:50 UTC

In fact one of the dogwhistles was "Denying that they are fascist"

2018-07-18 06:49:55 UTC

I don't see the point of alt lite tbh

2018-07-18 06:50:03 UTC

I've never seen anyone self identify as it

2018-07-18 06:50:28 UTC

It seems to be applied to people like Lauren Southern and Rahim Kassam

2018-07-18 06:50:37 UTC

And even Majid Nawaz

2018-07-18 06:51:23 UTC

"In addition even though the Alt Lite and Al Right labels serve a function on a political classification level I would still urge one to be cautious about overusing these descriptors as they may cloud some key differences between individuals falling under the respective umbrellas."

2018-07-18 06:52:48 UTC

"In fact one of the dogwhistles was 'denying that they are fascist' "

The sureset sign you're just on a witch hunt.

2018-07-18 06:52:57 UTC

There is interesting discourse because many who are "alt-lite" are called alt-right

2018-07-18 06:53:32 UTC

Like Tommy Robinson?

2018-07-18 06:53:38 UTC

Katie Hopkins?

2018-07-18 06:53:44 UTC

Ann Coulter?

2018-07-18 06:53:57 UTC

Ben Shapiro?

2018-07-18 06:53:59 UTC

I wouldn't necessarily use alt-lite as a over encompassing grouping though

2018-07-18 06:54:11 UTC

Shapiro is considered 'alt-right'

2018-07-18 06:54:12 UTC

Really?

2018-07-18 06:54:17 UTC

Oh yes

2018-07-18 06:54:19 UTC

Ya

2018-07-18 06:54:22 UTC

Huh.

2018-07-18 06:54:25 UTC

right?

2018-07-18 06:54:29 UTC

Make a twitter

2018-07-18 06:54:36 UTC

I avoid social media

2018-07-18 06:54:37 UTC

Follow Kristi winters

2018-07-18 06:54:42 UTC

And everyone related

2018-07-18 06:54:45 UTC

IE; Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr

2018-07-18 06:54:56 UTC

That'll give you your daily dose of cancer

2018-07-18 06:55:21 UTC

I deleted my Facebook

2018-07-18 06:55:29 UTC

If Christina Hoff Sommers can be a misogynist

2018-07-18 06:55:30 UTC

rarely use twitter now

2018-07-18 06:55:32 UTC

Anything is possible

2018-07-18 06:55:46 UTC

Never made a Tumblr

2018-07-18 06:55:50 UTC

Hehe

2018-07-18 06:55:57 UTC

Pussy

2018-07-18 06:55:59 UTC

I have a Reddit though

2018-07-18 06:56:51 UTC

faaaaag

2018-07-18 06:56:56 UTC

Jk, I dont either

2018-07-18 06:57:08 UTC

No fb, no twitter

2018-07-18 06:57:14 UTC

No reddit, none of that

2018-07-18 06:57:20 UTC

What would I even do on Tumblr?

2018-07-18 06:57:26 UTC

porn?

2018-07-18 06:57:32 UTC

You need an account to access them

2018-07-18 06:57:36 UTC

R18 ones at least

2018-07-18 06:57:50 UTC

I use Reddit, occasionally. Usually not for politics

2018-07-18 06:58:02 UTC

Reddit politics is a shitshow

2018-07-18 06:58:07 UTC

I've come to the conclusion Reddit is being heavily manipulated at this point.

2018-07-18 06:58:10 UTC

Ya don't go near politics much anymore

2018-07-18 06:58:12 UTC

Alot of really angry people

2018-07-18 06:58:15 UTC

And I'm not sure how much is it external either.

2018-07-18 06:58:29 UTC

some cool art related subredits

2018-07-18 06:58:38 UTC

The Net Neutrality campaign on Reddit was a huge red flag something was up.

2018-07-18 06:58:44 UTC

or sharing of stories

2018-07-18 06:58:52 UTC

I don't care how you feel on the issue, Reddit was clearly mucking with something.

2018-07-18 06:58:56 UTC

I like mildly interesting

2018-07-18 06:59:01 UTC

Spent most of my teen years crawling backwater boards like 4chan and 8chan, Reddit felt a bit foreign for the longest time

2018-07-18 06:59:07 UTC

And their "explanation" was embarrasingly bad.

2018-07-18 06:59:28 UTC

I don't really mess with 4chan either

2018-07-18 06:59:41 UTC

Evidently, Shareblue documents planning operations got leaked and /r/politics was a top target too.

2018-07-18 06:59:45 UTC

Fun fact about reddit

2018-07-18 06:59:48 UTC

Really depends on specific board you visit

2018-07-18 06:59:51 UTC

Anyone can manipulate it

2018-07-18 06:59:54 UTC

/b/ is a shitshow, always will be.

2018-07-18 07:00:00 UTC

That's the idea with Reddit.

2018-07-18 07:00:12 UTC

I once got a bag of chips to the frontpage of r/donald

2018-07-18 07:00:20 UTC

By myself

2018-07-18 07:00:24 UTC

But it collapses much the same way wikipedia does. A sufficiently large organized group can potentially cause signficant damage.

2018-07-18 07:00:28 UTC

It's so easy

2018-07-18 07:00:49 UTC

Someone brought up my karma on Reddit, but I am mostly like I don't really need to feel like society approves of what I think

2018-07-18 07:00:51 UTC

Alot of inertial effects and things can give organized entities disproportionate power.

2018-07-18 07:00:59 UTC

Common public is dumb af

2018-07-18 07:01:13 UTC

Yeah, Karma is really a game to try and incentivize people to use the platform.

2018-07-18 07:01:25 UTC

It's like levels in Discord. A skinner box of worthless rewards.

2018-07-18 07:01:26 UTC

The chan boards are unique in some ways though, people act differently when they dont have a name, or any sort of reputation to worry about

2018-07-18 07:01:31 UTC

Sometimes it brings out the worst

2018-07-18 07:01:35 UTC

But sometimes it brings out the best

2018-07-18 07:01:46 UTC

I always got the impression 4 chan tries to be the worst part of humanity at all times.

2018-07-18 07:01:56 UTC

"humor is edgy" as they say.

2018-07-18 07:02:08 UTC

So they take it to the extreme where it's probably a bit too far.

2018-07-18 07:02:08 UTC

4chan is a lot of things

2018-07-18 07:02:14 UTC

There's alot of shit to search through, but /b/ and /pol/ are the face of 4chan

2018-07-18 07:02:19 UTC

/b/ is classic.

2018-07-18 07:02:26 UTC

and give it a somewhat undeserved reputation

2018-07-18 07:02:29 UTC

The origin of modern internet culture.

2018-07-18 07:02:31 UTC

The smaller boards are really chill

2018-07-18 07:03:06 UTC

8chan is mostly the exodus that happened after moot decided to be a cunt

2018-07-18 07:03:18 UTC

(Moot was the guy that owned 4chan)

2018-07-18 07:03:28 UTC

Changed his tune, started censoring certain boards

2018-07-18 07:03:39 UTC

After gamergate if I recall

2018-07-18 07:03:45 UTC

Yeah, not too long after

2018-07-18 07:03:47 UTC

it was somewhat related

2018-07-18 07:03:54 UTC

Moots fault for hanging out alongside the rich left

2018-07-18 07:04:03 UTC

/v/ and /pol/ got hit the hardest with the censoring

2018-07-18 07:04:23 UTC

calling it left or right in any way wasnt something you saw back then

2018-07-18 07:05:09 UTC

Hm. I get the impression the majority of people are on Reddit now.

2018-07-18 07:05:21 UTC

Which kinda scares me given how easily manipulated it is.

2018-07-18 07:05:24 UTC

Reddit is way more populous then the chan boards

2018-07-18 07:05:45 UTC

And therefore the closer to average internet savvy person

2018-07-18 07:05:45 UTC

The chan's are just backwaters, thats been mostly true since ive been around to observe them

2018-07-18 07:05:57 UTC

Reddit is something like the 8th most popular website worldwide.

2018-07-18 07:06:24 UTC

Reddit is really common, almost entry level internet

2018-07-18 07:06:29 UTC

It's massive. And ripe for all sorts of abuse.

2018-07-18 07:06:37 UTC

4chan is structured in a really old, not very user friendly way

2018-07-18 07:06:53 UTC

4chan *is* old.

2018-07-18 07:07:00 UTC

It is.

2018-07-18 07:07:03 UTC

And it wasn't really meant to be user friendly either.

2018-07-18 07:07:07 UTC

Correct.

2018-07-18 07:07:31 UTC

Reddit was specifically designed to be clean and self-organizing.

2018-07-18 07:07:41 UTC

And well, it kinda forms a shield

2018-07-18 07:07:48 UTC

8chan could be described as 'self organizing'

2018-07-18 07:07:48 UTC

4chan being so unfriendly

2018-07-18 07:07:53 UTC

Its like a gauntlet getting in

2018-07-18 07:07:55 UTC

The way it works is literally anybody

2018-07-18 07:08:01 UTC

can decide they want to make a board

2018-07-18 07:08:09 UTC

Like how you can make a thread on reddit

2018-07-18 07:08:31 UTC

Also, 4chan in alot of ways is meant to be unfriendly

2018-07-18 07:08:40 UTC

It being popular would defeat the point in some ways

2018-07-18 07:09:01 UTC

/b/ and /pol/ are both the most populated boards

2018-07-18 07:09:06 UTC

and the most abrasive

2018-07-18 07:09:21 UTC

The other boards require you to skim through and find them

2018-07-18 07:10:27 UTC

But /tg/, the anime boards, the porn boards, /v/ to a decent extent, and a few of the other misc ones

2018-07-18 07:10:31 UTC

Are all quite friendly

2018-07-18 07:12:48 UTC

remember when /b/ was good?

2018-07-18 07:13:51 UTC

No?

2018-07-18 07:14:11 UTC

I mean, i guess i remember when it was better.

2018-07-18 07:14:27 UTC

But /b/ was always a bit too much shitposting for me

2018-07-18 07:14:40 UTC

2018-07-18 07:14:50 UTC

it was a meme ๐Ÿ˜›

2018-07-18 07:15:36 UTC

lawl. So random.

2018-07-18 07:15:44 UTC

Oh, i see.

2018-07-18 07:15:49 UTC

That memes kinda true though.

2018-07-18 07:16:57 UTC

uncultured heathans... ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

2018-07-18 07:18:49 UTC

I'll admit I missed the bus on most early internet culture.

Only ever got really slow dialup with the local phone company and never really got on any of the really interesting sites.

2018-07-18 07:19:19 UTC

Anyone else think /LGBT is cancer

2018-07-18 07:19:33 UTC

It's like Tumblr

2018-07-18 07:19:50 UTC

/LGBT?

2018-07-18 07:19:52 UTC

I think any faction of which i am not the absolute undisputed ruler is cancer

2018-07-18 07:20:48 UTC

hahahah

2018-07-18 07:20:55 UTC

I have a theory

2018-07-18 07:21:03 UTC

If we started eating pandas

2018-07-18 07:21:10 UTC

They won't be endangered

2018-07-18 07:21:15 UTC

they'll be extinct

2018-07-18 07:21:19 UTC

No, ni

2018-07-18 07:21:21 UTC

That's stangely plausible actually.

2018-07-18 07:21:27 UTC

Think of chicken right

2018-07-18 07:21:27 UTC

She's actually got a point

2018-07-18 07:21:38 UTC

If we domesticate them and find them tastey

2018-07-18 07:21:43 UTC

It's popular, so companies mass breed them

2018-07-18 07:21:44 UTC

They wont go extinct

2018-07-18 07:21:56 UTC

Actually, most domesticated animals would go extinct if we weren't around.

2018-07-18 07:22:00 UTC

And when companies mass breed an animal, it won't be endangered

2018-07-18 07:22:03 UTC

for that theory to apply, you'd need them to actually wanna mate with each other

The issue isn't that they're dying out at a rapid rate

Its that they don't bang enough to re-populate the species

2018-07-18 07:22:04 UTC

Yes, but we're around

2018-07-18 07:22:05 UTC

:p

2018-07-18 07:22:27 UTC

Actually, if you want to help horses in America, they should be hunted here

2018-07-18 07:22:33 UTC

I think you underestimate the lengths people will go to to make a good buck.

2018-07-18 07:22:38 UTC

@Dr.Wol yes, and it'll be in the interest of the panda meat companies to force them to mate

2018-07-18 07:22:52 UTC

lets help the buffalo in North America, we used to eat them all and... oh wait

2018-07-18 07:22:53 UTC

How do you think dog interbreeding is done?

2018-07-18 07:23:12 UTC

That's if you hunt wild animals, Yeah

2018-07-18 07:23:16 UTC
