Basically, my plan is to run the server like Soviet russia
One thing I was considering was trying to think of a way to ensure a balanced look at these things.
My problem was that I could never figure out how you would prevent false flags and concern trolling.
There won't be no trolls or flags
There will be flags, ok
But I'll try and keep it human
False flags are only a problem when the system is automated
Like on youtube
nonono, false flag is a term for pretending to be an opponent to disrupt them or create bad press
(see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_flag)
concern trolling is pretending to be a member of a group online to improve identification with people you're looking to persuade (see; https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=concern%20troll)
Oooh
Essentially, it's hard to trust people to be honest about their own identifications, so to speak, so it's hard to ensure balance.
Hmmm
If you know people personally or it's the same people attaching a common identifier, this isn't as much a problem.
Well, the I know like two writers on quora I can trust
Ones a psychopath....And the other is one f the founders of the Alt right lol
I talk to them regularly
Maybe I'll try to put an application out on Twitter or Facebook
Maybe people write articles
and I read them
Keep them around for a while
@ExceptionalFeather I can't tell you not to use wikipedia, and it's got some use.
But do be aware of it's limitations and don't just assume what you read is necessarily accurate. Particularly if names or something seem to start flying or the people who are discussed in an article protest.
But yeah these are possible issues
It's ultimately better to do your own extensive research on politics in many cases and balance sources.
I think I should start with the basics first
Design the site
lol. @Deleted User you've got odd friends.
But if it seems to work.
Hey, they're interesting people
The psychopath is a conservative
@pratel I don't assume any source is outright accurate
It's always more fun to have interesting friends than normal friends. I cannot lie.
And the other guy is Frank Smytt
@pratel I just think it gets underused because people think that it is mostly inaccurate
He's one of the original members of the alt right, before the neo Nazis and white nationalists took over
He's a black guy btw
We were discussing alt-lite earlier
In my experience, Wikipedia is heavily overused. It's too easy to use and puts so much at the top that people don't read past it that much. Plus Google and Bing put it right at the top in a special box.
Alt lite seems to be a prejorative
it may have been used that way just like liberal or conservative
"I want to tell people this person is alt right, but I can't, so...."
From what I understand Alt-lite is an attempt to rebrand after Charlottesville.
some accept it to be alt-right minus the identity politics
On tumblr alt lite is a nazi dogwhistle
So there's that
On tumblr everything's a Nazi dogwhistle.
It's a prejorative
You guys know contrapoints, right?
The tranny youtuber?
She made a video about Nazi dogwhistles
And every single one applies to her
It's hilarious
In fact one of the dogwhistles was "Denying that they are fascist"
I don't see the point of alt lite tbh
I've never seen anyone self identify as it
It seems to be applied to people like Lauren Southern and Rahim Kassam
And even Majid Nawaz
"In addition even though the Alt Lite and Al Right labels serve a function on a political classification level I would still urge one to be cautious about overusing these descriptors as they may cloud some key differences between individuals falling under the respective umbrellas."
"In fact one of the dogwhistles was 'denying that they are fascist' "
The sureset sign you're just on a witch hunt.
There is interesting discourse because many who are "alt-lite" are called alt-right
Like Tommy Robinson?
Katie Hopkins?
Ann Coulter?
Ben Shapiro?
I wouldn't necessarily use alt-lite as a over encompassing grouping though
Shapiro is considered 'alt-right'
Really?
Oh yes
Ya
Huh.
right?
Make a twitter
I avoid social media
Follow Kristi winters
And everyone related
IE; Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr
That'll give you your daily dose of cancer
I deleted my Facebook
If Christina Hoff Sommers can be a misogynist
rarely use twitter now
Anything is possible
Never made a Tumblr
Hehe
Pussy
I have a Reddit though
faaaaag
Jk, I dont either
No fb, no twitter
No reddit, none of that
What would I even do on Tumblr?
porn?
You need an account to access them
R18 ones at least
I use Reddit, occasionally. Usually not for politics
Reddit politics is a shitshow
I've come to the conclusion Reddit is being heavily manipulated at this point.
Ya don't go near politics much anymore
Alot of really angry people
And I'm not sure how much is it external either.
some cool art related subredits
The Net Neutrality campaign on Reddit was a huge red flag something was up.
or sharing of stories
I don't care how you feel on the issue, Reddit was clearly mucking with something.
I like mildly interesting
Spent most of my teen years crawling backwater boards like 4chan and 8chan, Reddit felt a bit foreign for the longest time
And their "explanation" was embarrasingly bad.
I don't really mess with 4chan either
Evidently, Shareblue documents planning operations got leaked and /r/politics was a top target too.
Fun fact about reddit
Really depends on specific board you visit
Anyone can manipulate it
/b/ is a shitshow, always will be.
That's the idea with Reddit.
I once got a bag of chips to the frontpage of r/donald
By myself
But it collapses much the same way wikipedia does. A sufficiently large organized group can potentially cause signficant damage.
It's so easy
Someone brought up my karma on Reddit, but I am mostly like I don't really need to feel like society approves of what I think
Alot of inertial effects and things can give organized entities disproportionate power.
Common public is dumb af
Yeah, Karma is really a game to try and incentivize people to use the platform.
It's like levels in Discord. A skinner box of worthless rewards.
The chan boards are unique in some ways though, people act differently when they dont have a name, or any sort of reputation to worry about
Sometimes it brings out the worst
But sometimes it brings out the best
I always got the impression 4 chan tries to be the worst part of humanity at all times.
"humor is edgy" as they say.
So they take it to the extreme where it's probably a bit too far.
4chan is a lot of things
There's alot of shit to search through, but /b/ and /pol/ are the face of 4chan
/b/ is classic.
and give it a somewhat undeserved reputation
The origin of modern internet culture.
The smaller boards are really chill
8chan is mostly the exodus that happened after moot decided to be a cunt
(Moot was the guy that owned 4chan)
Changed his tune, started censoring certain boards
After gamergate if I recall
Yeah, not too long after
it was somewhat related
Moots fault for hanging out alongside the rich left
/v/ and /pol/ got hit the hardest with the censoring
calling it left or right in any way wasnt something you saw back then
Hm. I get the impression the majority of people are on Reddit now.
Which kinda scares me given how easily manipulated it is.
Reddit is way more populous then the chan boards
And therefore the closer to average internet savvy person
The chan's are just backwaters, thats been mostly true since ive been around to observe them
Reddit is something like the 8th most popular website worldwide.
Reddit is really common, almost entry level internet
It's massive. And ripe for all sorts of abuse.
4chan is structured in a really old, not very user friendly way
4chan *is* old.
It is.
And it wasn't really meant to be user friendly either.
Correct.
Reddit was specifically designed to be clean and self-organizing.
And well, it kinda forms a shield
8chan could be described as 'self organizing'
4chan being so unfriendly
Its like a gauntlet getting in
The way it works is literally anybody
can decide they want to make a board
Like how you can make a thread on reddit
Also, 4chan in alot of ways is meant to be unfriendly
It being popular would defeat the point in some ways
/b/ and /pol/ are both the most populated boards
and the most abrasive
The other boards require you to skim through and find them
But /tg/, the anime boards, the porn boards, /v/ to a decent extent, and a few of the other misc ones
Are all quite friendly
remember when /b/ was good?
No?
I mean, i guess i remember when it was better.
But /b/ was always a bit too much shitposting for me
it was a meme ๐
lawl. So random.
Oh, i see.
That memes kinda true though.
uncultured heathans... ๐ฆ
I'll admit I missed the bus on most early internet culture.
Only ever got really slow dialup with the local phone company and never really got on any of the really interesting sites.
Anyone else think /LGBT is cancer
It's like Tumblr
/LGBT?
I think any faction of which i am not the absolute undisputed ruler is cancer
!rank
FUCK
now don't do that! ๐ฆ
you'll catch up to meeeee
and i'll be a sad panda
IM SO CLOSE
SO FUCKING CLOSE
!rank
so mean
@Dr.Wol fuck pandas
fine i'll be a sad penis!
๐ข
Ew
hahahah
I have a theory
If we started eating pandas
They won't be endangered
they'll be extinct
No, ni
That's stangely plausible actually.
Think of chicken right
She's actually got a point
If we domesticate them and find them tastey
It's popular, so companies mass breed them
They wont go extinct
Actually, most domesticated animals would go extinct if we weren't around.
And when companies mass breed an animal, it won't be endangered
for that theory to apply, you'd need them to actually wanna mate with each other
The issue isn't that they're dying out at a rapid rate
Its that they don't bang enough to re-populate the species
Yes, but we're around
:p
Actually, if you want to help horses in America, they should be hunted here
I think you underestimate the lengths people will go to to make a good buck.
@Dr.Wol yes, and it'll be in the interest of the panda meat companies to force them to mate
lets help the buffalo in North America, we used to eat them all and... oh wait
How do you think dog interbreeding is done?
That's if you hunt wild animals, Yeah
It's unethical
Cruel af
But it will work
Wild horses are overpopulated and starving to death.
I'm sadistic Elon Musk haha
You can still eat buffalo in some places.
We eat buffaloes here
India is the largest exporter of beef
Btw
yeah, but the Americans of the 1800 nearly caused them to be extingt in North america
....That cant be true, right?
What happened to all the sacred cow stuff?
Lemme look it up
lol. So the University of Texas has a cow as it's mascot.
But then every so often the longhorn gets old or sick or something.
They go find a nearby rancher and the University president eats steak.
Lmfao it is
@Dr.Wol Bison technically
yes Feather, might i say you're looking rather exceptional today
Thanks ๐
Do you export the whole cow or something?
isn't the cow sacred to Indians?
That's my thinking
Though the US probably produces alot more beef then that cart implies
Nope, meat
Its just not exported
then again, everything is sacred to Indians
but eaten locally instead
