that’s actually a good point
But the government can’t employ the same amount of people who would be replaced by machines
And if they did the need for infrastructure upgrades would diminish leaving us in the same place we were
hmm I wanna say you underestimate how much work there is to do there, but I don't know the numbers of potentially displaced workers/how much work is needed for infrastructure
at the very least, I offer it as a partial temporary solution
and a way to make our country amazing in a specific way ya dig
Well think about it though, roughly 250M available workers in the US
if the government employed all of them
We should take 25% of our military budget then put it into infrastructure programs
250M unemployed? is that what's meant by available?
ooooh I love it shadow
No no
Like
That’s just the work force
I don’t know the exact number
oh, the whole work force won't be displaced
Obviously
But the majority will
lots of jobs are safe
By the time machines replace most jobs
The population will have increased as well
you think? where you getting that from. America doesn't have a strong factory presence anymore, and that's who gets automated
I mean I’m also talking globally tho
service and skilled labor isn't gonna go anywhere
oh
yeah that's diff
I think America will get hit by this for sure
but I don't think close to a majority
There’s plenty of jobs that would be effected
for sure!
it's an issue, to which i present the possibility of infrastructure work here in America
But you still run into the same problem we have today
How would the government pay em
once the infrastructure work runs out?
And that
well, that's another issue
because we can get into marginal tax debates haha
which is an entirely other subject
Yea
but I think a high tax rate for millionaires could pay for it
Idk
Nah
I think when you tax the rich
Send in troops to take all their money.
They leave
Like in California
Force them to stay.
hahahaha shadow with the great ideas again
fuck it let's just eat the rich
He’s just a member
Memer*
Well if you use the rich persons family.
You can get money out of them
I personally think that a flat 10% tax rate for everyone is ideal
Maybe less for poor
eh tbh
idk
But I don't think the millitary budget should be used
oof
just privatise the bridges etc
instead of the government paying for it
lmao, those tolls would be the fucking worst
Then they’d become toll bridges
yea
it would be so miserable
yep
not really
probably cheaper
But you pay for it in taxes now
So lower taxes
yeah it's way easier to pay for it in taxes then every time I cross lol
Yea
I was gonna say the time cost
But there’s things now
and there is no way that it would be cheaper, it's a private enterprise, they would figure out how to make as much money as possible
Like EZPass
And to make such money you have to give it at a supply and demand cost
it's not like there's competition between bridges... you just need to use a specific bridge to get somewhere haha
Where it automatically takes it when you drive through
which is probably cheaper
competition between bridging companies
@Colonel Sanders™ probably something of the sort
I doubt there will be toll areas
I mean it’s a thing now
o
We have it lol
yeah there are private roads
what? how does that make sense. You have to cross a bridge, and you can't cross any other bridge, why would they want to lower that cost?
they could charge you whatever
what's ezpass?
when you cross a roll
Toll
Instead of stopping and paying
The toll road scans your car for it and automatically takes money out of an account
oh tight, private or government?
Saving time
I don’t actually know
Lol
I’ll look it up 1 sec
I would assume private
yee just curious, i would assume that too
Oh it’s only in MA
rip
competition doesn't apply to bridges: you have to cross specific bridges to get to specific places (that's how bridges work)
oh gotcha
and it’s private he’s
Yes*
I bet other places have other programs similar
yea
programs similar lol idk why I phrased it that way
but anyway yeah let's invest in our bridges
I understood either way xD
Another problem with that is
I live on cape cod
And when they were fixing the bridges
It was fucking aids
To cross
ooof I feel that, had a similar situation a couple summers ago
Took around 1-2hours to get to the mainland
yeah I mean there's no good way around that right? when you need to update infrastructure people are just boned who have to interact with that infrastructure
but I don't think that's an excuse to not repair things
like it sucks but we gotta do it
and last I checked our bridges are in a *seriously* bad state
and if they fail then the government is gonna have to intervene, and it'll be way more expensive to deal with a broken bridge than to repair an existing one
"wahxToday at 20:25
what? how does that make sense. You have to cross a bridge, and you can't cross any other bridge, why would they want to lower that cost?"
Competition between other methods of transport
The bridges are currently a monopoly
and it's the reason why it's so broken, not maintained well
Not to mention congestion and traffic blocks due to the free rider problem
free rider program?
which would be solved in a privatised system
Free rider problem
competition between bridges and... other methods of transportation? like what
I heard you lol can you explain it
people taking benefits from public goods they didn't contribute to
Now we have excess demands on these roads which leads to shortages
oh like companies driving trucks on roads without paying much in taxes by tax evasion
No
Well
maybe yea
ye
lol
stuff like that
but anyway, generally speaking, you have a bridge somewhere because getting there otherwise is tough
what do you say to someone who has to cross a specific bridge to get somewhere?
trains and other roads will be a problem if there is a high price charged
what about our homie @Colonel Sanders™ , who it sounds like only has one way to get somewehre
or a price above the equilibrium
wouldn't private companies just drive up the cost of his drive?
because they know it's the only way somewhere?
How?
and who
the problem with privatizing roads and other public infrastructure is that there are very specific regional monopolies
Colonel Sanders
roads are monopolies currently
haha, you're not hearing me, regional monopolies
if there is *ONE ROAD* to get somewhere, what will happen to the tolls on that road?
in a free market situation
Wdym what will happen?
will the tolls go up... or down
will the price be high... or low
depends what supply and demand has it at
no, there is none of that. There is one road, one toll, x amount of people use it daily. it is not fluctuating, it is a road in a population-stable location
what will happen to the tolls on that road?
will they magically be low?
the "supply" is 1: one road lol. The demand is x amount of people a day. It doesn't change, because it is a road.
the toll will be extremely high, because they know they can, because people need this road
I mere there’s 2 bridges but 1 only has a 2 lane road to get to it lol
So when they do work on the main one
You’re fucked
And it’s like every summer btw
mkay so there's some competition there, we can easily imagine a scenario though where just one road/bridge exists to get somewhere
Unless the same company buys both bridges
yeah then you're still boned
>like the government owning both xD
oof haha, the question is do we want the government having the monopoly, or private institutions
one of those is more efficient but wants to get as much money from you as possible
one of those is less efficient but profit isn't a concept
hmmm I wonder what dems want in exchange
like if they wanna negotiate, they want something
I see Pocahontas is in the thumbnail.
Good Pocahontas.
oof
Elizabeth Warren a fat L for MA
you said the rise of automation eliminates jobs right
I believed the same thing a few years ago
but it really doesn't
if you look back in time, industrial revolution for example, people were saying jobs would be gone and that a lot of people would be unemployed and people would be doing nothing
exactly how people say it now, but look what happened
That’s different though
People still needed to work the machines
In the scenario I’m talking automation removes the majority of jobs
Like high majority
people will still be needed to make the make the machines, check if theyre working properly, repair them
yes
Obviously
But in the IR the machines were run by people
It was probably 10 people to a machine but now
It would be 1 to 100
Maybe less
But you get the point
Hello
Lol
lmao, where'd you find that?
You should install a Ben garrison political cartoon bot
Yeah he draws some good shit
<:pepegun:475764936656551936> <:FAKENEWS:475769593923895306>
<:Maga_hat:475771334983417877>
<:Trump:475766890447372299>
Lol
@wahx there is supply and demand everywhere
They won’t become monopolies however , and will be much more efficient
Less shortages and less crime
Parallel bridges above, tunnels below for competition
Economizing- Say three paths: road 1 = (line A,B) , road 2 = (line A,B)+distance 50 north, road 3 = (line A,B)-distance 50 south. Say road 1 costs $50, road 2 costs $35, and road 3 costs $20, the driver could economize by picking the road at that suits them best in relation to time/money. Currently drivers have no incentive to economize because roads are completely subsidized, so they tend to take the shortest route every time which leads to congestion.
Substitutes the cost of the road would still have to be less than airfare to compete with that substitute. So there would be no monopoly in that regard, also, perhaps in a free market with private roads, passenger trains would once again be competitive in the market. Currently with subsidized roads there is no reason to compete in this sector.
Besides there will always be an incentive for private firms for transportation. They can’t exist without a means of transporting goods and services
lol what a moron
LMFAO
How is someone that dumb in public office
Also I’m pretty sure that’s the same guy who said revolting against the government is impossible because they have nukes
remember we have AOC in congress as well. Any retard can be a congressman/woman at this point.
Yeah Sarah Palin was the governor of a fucking state
If she can do it literally anyone can
true
Sarah Palin was a literal retard
I think she was one of the main reasons Mccain lost so bad
"oil caused Venezuela crisis"
who said that
Nah just people say oil caused the Venezuelan crisis
as an excuse
Gotta defend socialism
I think Venezuela's collapse just made Sanders and Cortez unelectable tbh
they aren't even socialist
Cortez is super socialist, sanders is socialist but not as much
"A country having rich people is immoral"
plus she wants to give poor people free housing
housing as a human right she calls it
nah they aren't socialists
they're all soc dems
Venezuela collapsed mainly because they thought printing unlimited currency would be fun
its all the same thing
putting democratic in front of a word doesn't change it
its still socialism
