I had a debate/probably closer to argument with a friend of a friend who is probably the most left person I've ever seen, and their sentiment was basically "everyone is alt-right, everyone is fascist"

Unfortunately that mentality is quite common among certain segments of society

And in terms of the fluoride, I should mention that that is based on a Harvard study - not on any conspiracy theories

He's taking a metaphor too far, though you could call it idolatry.

Idolatry is the worship of objects and people, though what Feminism does is entirely secular.

It does seem fairly pagan, and there has been a resurgence of faux-paganism since Christianity started declining.

I tend to think of it in terms if ideology, personally.

I don't think there's much difference between Religion and ideology. The only difference is the concept of who made the rules. It's all a question of morality and morals are quite subjective.
